As the first year of my three year term on the Berlin Central School District (BCSD) came to an end this past July I look forward to the great opportunities that await the children and our communities. Petersburgh Turkey Shoot
The Petersburgh Turkey Shoot will take place on October 2 at 12 noon; the rain date is October 9. This is the last chance for the summer long 50/50 raffle; the drawing is October 2.
Bring your friends, your rifles and shotguns. There will be all kinds of good food, other raffles and a good family time for all!
Stephentown Historical Society Presents Indian Clothing
Jennifer Lee will give a talk on historic Indian clothing of the northeast woodlands on Monday, October 3, at 7:30 pm at the Stephentown Historical Society’s Heritage Center, Garfield Road (County Route 26) in Stephentown. Lee, a student of American Indian history and culture and of Algonkian descent, will show and model a selection of clothing and accoutrements. The event is free. Special Families Market At The Lebanon Valley Farmers Market
On Sunday, October 9, from 10 am to 2 pm there will be a Special Families Market at the Lebanon Valley Farmers Market in the Mid-Town Mall on Route 20/22 in New Lebanon. There will be pony rides from 11 am to 1 pm, jewelry making, a goat milk demonstration, grass planting and much more including live music by the Matchstick Architects.
All events are free. Please come help celebrate the growing season and support our local farmers.
Berlin Fire Department Fresh Maine Lobster Dinner
A fresh Maine lobster dinner will be served at the Berlin Firehouse on Saturday, October 15, from 6 to 8 pm. Take-outs are available from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.
The dinner includes your choice of one single lobster dinner at $19 or a twin lobster dinner for $27 with melted butter and salad, roll, baked potato, ice cream and beverage.

Stephentown Memorial Library Events
• Introduction to Grant Research Online – Thursday, October 6, at 10 am. This one hour workshop will provide a step by step guide to using the Foundation Center Online’s database of almost 100,000 grant giving foundations and corporations. SML is one of only 400 libraries in the country that provide free access to this “gold standard” grant seeking resource. Workshop participants will learn how to query the database, interpret and analyze the information and build a prioritized list of grant opportunities that will provide the greatest likelihood of success. Two Events At The New Lebanon Library
Book Group
The New Lebanon Book Group will discuss the novel My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira on Sunday, October 2, at 11 am at the New Lebanon Library.
Rich with historical detail and full of the tragedies and challenges of wartime, this is the story of a young woman’s struggle to become a doctor during the Civil War. According to the Princeton Review, Oliveira’s debut novel powerfully evokes the atmosphere of the period.

Berlin Fire Department Breakfast
On Sunday, October 2, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its fresh, hot off the griddle, monthly breakfast. For your eating pleasure we include all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast, biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard). Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.

Brunswick Grange Tailgate Sale
On Sunday, October 2, Brunswick Grange will hold its annual fall agricultural tailgate sale at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, Rt. 67 and 40, Schaghticoke, from 8 am to 12:30 pm. More than 50 vendors will have various varieties of chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, plants, flowers and other related agricultural items. A donation of $15 per vendor will be charged.
