Fri., June 24: Family Movie – Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
6:30 PM – Start your summer vacation with a showing of the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, based on the popular book series. This movie is rated PG. Popcorn and juice will be provided.
Sunday, June 26 Summer Reading Kick Off Event
2 – 4 PM Bring your friends and join us for an afternoon scavenger hunt. All ages are welcome. We will break into mixed age teams to ensure fairness. Watermelon and an array of international snacks will be served and the details of our summer reading program will be explained.

Begins, June 27 FREE Daily Lunch & Snack at SML
12 – 1 pm & 3 – 3:30 pm We are pleased to have been chosen as a feeding site through this federally funded lunch program. We will be serving a healthy bag lunch each weekday from 12 – 1 pm in the community room. At 1 pm each weekday, we will have an activity (movie, recorded book, board games, etc.). Then from 3 – 3:30 pm we will serve a snack. There is no charge and no income or residency requirement. All children under age 18 are encouraged to take advantage of this program. The program will run from June 27 until August 19, Monday through Friday.
Tues., June 28 Magic Tree House Book Discussion Group
4 pm Join us this summer as we go on adventures around the world with Jack and Annie in the Magic Tree House books. Each monthly meeting we will discuss a new book and learn about a new culture through fun hands on activities. Copies of the books will be available at the library. Please read the book before attending book club. Our first meeting we will discuss Mummies in the Morning, and we will be learning about ancient Egypt, making pyramids, and experimenting with hieroglyphics. Companion book: Mummies and Pyramids.
Sat., July 9 Rhonda’s Reptiles with Rhonda Leavitt
1 pm Rhonda Leavitt will bring an assortment of fascinating reptiles and explain their value to our world. This is a great show for the whole family. Also enjoy our Annual Book Festival which will have great books, homemade food, Chinese auction, local artisans and more from 9 – 3.
Tues., July 12 Animals Around the Globe
10:30 am Local Wildlife Educator Bernadette Hoffman will bring a variety of pelts, skulls, antlers and more along with stories and facts about a variety of animals. Taped recordings of animal voices will also be played. Join us as we learn about many varieties of animals and their place in the natural world. There will also be LIVE animals to touch and experience. This is a wonderful family event that both adults and children will find most interesting. Reservations requested.
Tues., July 19 World Passport: A Musical Journey Around the Globe
10:30 am Grab your boarding passes and travel around the world with the award-winning musical storytelling duo, Tales ‘n Tunes. This sing-along, highly interactive program will take us to many countries. Reservations requested.
Wed., July 20 The Sites, the Sounds and the Stories of Scotland
1:30 pm Come and join a bairns (children’s) program that will explore the magical world of Scotland, from the sounds of the pipes, the grandeur of the kilt and the stories of a nation. See pictures of castles, Loch Ness and more. Come and take part in activities including tossing the caber, listen to a story, and hear the music of Scotland. Dancing in the isle is appreciated! Reservations requested.
Tues., Aug. 2 Travel the World in Tales & Tunes
1:30 pm Minstrel Storyteller Mary Jo Maichack presents an interactive family program especially recommended for children ages 4 and older. This is a delightful show of songs and folktales celebrating summer reading club in a participatory, engaging style. The show is free and open to the public
Tues., August 9 Welcome Home, Japan
10:30 am This program invites kids to learn about and compare traditional Japanese homes with our own homes in the USA. The program uses international children’s art to enhance the experience. Participants will have the opportunity to view and examine authentic Japanese objects and to create a Japanese craft. The program is led by Sheileen Landrey of the World Awareness Children’s Museum in Glens Falls, NY. Class size is limited, so call to reserve your spot for this great program! Ages 8 – 12.
Sat., Aug. 21 Summer’s End Celebration!
2 pm Our Summer Reading Program wraps up with our Annual Ice Cream Social and a Puppet Show extravaganza. Tweens and Teens are invited to join us at 10 am for an introduction to puppetry. Craft puppets and plan a puppet show that will be presented at 2 pm to our younger audience of summer readers. Games, prizes and certificates for all Summer Reading Program participants. All are welcome to join the fun!
