Strawberry shortcake will star at the Thirtieth Annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 26, under the tent at The Berry Patch on Route 22 in Stephentown. The feast, a fund-raiser for the Stephentown Historical Society, runs from 11 am to 4 pm. Locally grown, freshly picked strawberries will be served on shortcake with real whipped cream and your choice of home-baked biscuits or golden yellow cake or on ice cream sundaes. Pies, both whole and by the slice, will also be sold. You can also purchase jams, jellies and strawberries to take home. The Berry Patch is 1.7 miles south of the Stephentown traffic light.
The Stephentown Strawberry Festival began in 1982 when the Historical Society was in its infancy and was preparing for the Town’s bicentennial celebration in 1984. In the course of 29 years volunteers from the society have picked and prepared about two tons of strawberries and dished up nearly 6,000 servings of this delectable local product.
