The Stephentown Historical Society will hold its holiday potluck dinner on Monday, December 6, at 6:30 pm at the Stephentown Heritage Center, Garfield Road (County Route 26), Stephentown. Officers and Board Members will be elected at the brief business meeting. After the meeting the history and music of the penny whistle will be presented by Marilee Urbanczyk.
For the dinner, bring a dish large enough to share – a main course, salad or dessert. Beverages and table service are provided.
If you want to participate in the optional holiday gift exchange, you should bring a wrapped $5 gift marked for your own gender.
Urbanczyk, an Averill Park resident, has been playing the penny whistle since 1995. She plays in an 18th century music ensemble and the English country dance band Heartsease. She is also an 18th century re-enactor and a member of the Pokingbrook Morris Dancers. She works for the New York State Department of Education. She will be telling a bit of history of these ancient instruments and playing a sampling of the whistle’s tunes and styles through time.
All meetings are free and open to the public. The building is handicapped-accessible. For information, phone 518-733-5675.
