The Hoosick Falls Panther football team continues to sweep away their opponents with a 20-0 victory over North Country rival Greenwich Witches last Friday night.
A scoreless first quarter prompted the Panthers to come out of the huddle with full force as a 3rd and goal quarterback keeper from Mike Brewster put the Panthers on the board at the 3:39 mark of the second quarter. An extra point attempt by Quinn Rasmus flew wide of the goal posts.
Late in the 3rd quarter Hoosick Falls threatened to score again, but a pass from Brewster to Brad Burns was intercepted in the end zone by Greenwich’s Jason Flynn. The Witches set up a punt attempt that resulted in a block by Panther Chris Marshall. Flynn retrieved the blocked punt at the 6 and scampered out to the 35 for a first down.
A long gain down the sideline found the Witches at the Panther 1 yard line. After a Greenwich touchdown was called back due to illegal procedure on the offense, the Panthers lived up to their reputation for gritty defense as they held the Witches on the goal line.
“Greenwich was the toughest opponent we’ve played so far, but from the standpoint of the defensive line, I feel we did our job well and were able to make plays when we needed to. We certainly answered any questions on how physical our defensive line is,” said senior lineman John Michael Crucetti.
Tanner Williams closed out the game with a late 4th quarter touch down ending the contest with a score of 20-0.
Panthers face the Golden Horde of Granville this Friday at home at 7 pm.
