Hoosick Grange met on September 8 with Master David Cornell. The Master conducted the business of the Grange. The Lecturer presented the Grange with the blue ribbon and check for first place at the Schaghticoke Fair. The title of the exhibit was Mosquitoes. The Master thanked the committee. The Lecturer’s program was held after the business meeting. Louise Slingerland was in charge of the program which was on 9/11. Loie had a DVD that CBS put out on the tragedy, titled What We Saw. On the program Bryant Gumbel interviewed people who saw the planes crash into the buildings of the World Trade Center. Dan Rather, Harold Dow and Bob Schieffer also did interviews. Both political parties united and said they were outraged by the attack. It was said that Osama Bin Laden was a wholesaler of terror and was to blame. When the Pentagon was hit also it looked like he was to blame. When the Pentagon was hit it looked like it was a symbol of military power over New York City and Washington. It looked like the end of time said a woman. When the towers collapsed they compared this to Pearl Harbor. It was horrifying searching for bodies to see if anyone was alive. People left photos of missing loved ones. This was a very tragic time in our nation.
After September 11, the nation was more reunited than ever. A wave of patriotism passed over the nation. More flags were sold – stores ran out of them and had to reorder. The President and Billy Graham spoke. This is not something we ever want to see again. Loie closed with a closing thought – A wise man has great power, and a man of knowledge increases strength. The Lecturer thanked Loie.
After the program Marion and Omer Brenenstuhl had delicious refreshments.
