The Panthers played a very impressive game on their home field under the lights against Greenwich on September 21. The girls’ scored throughout the game with Meaghan McKee starting early with the first goal and adding two more later on to get a hat trick. Jordyn Haynes assisted with a McKee goal and also got a goal with a little help from Mackenzie Hinchliffe. Late in the second half the Witches sneaked in one goal. The Panthers’ central defender, Alice Hayden, nabbed herself a goal as well ending the game 5-1.
Fruit Bowl
The girls take a little break with some good ol’ Fruit Bowl, a traditional game that has been with the girls varsity soccer team since 2001. The soccer team is split into 3 different teams – Citrus, Blueberry and Kiwi. Once you are dubbed to a team, you stay with that team until you graduate. Each team tie-dyes their own team shirts, yellow and orange for Citrus, blue for Blueberry and green for Kiwi. The game is mostly all for fun, but the underlying idea is to help with finishing the ball and playing quickly under pressure. For the game the goals are set facing each other about fifteen feet apart. Two teams get in the area at once and battle for the ball that gets thrown in by a coach. As soon as one team scores the other team switches with the team that was resting. This goes back and forth until a team gets to 25 points. The teams play at least four Fruit Bowls per season, more if Coach Tom Husser is happy with how the season is going. Citrus is currently undefeated, 2-0.
