Appearing on the July poster for the New Lebanon READ campaign is Howard Commander, reading from his favorite book, Life of P.T. Barnum by Himself.
Commander, who has lived in New Lebanon his entire life, is the owner of the Lebanon Valley Speedway, one of the nation’s top speedways and dragways. He has been involved in racing for 55 years. As a promoter himself, Commander admires P.T. Barnum because his accomplishments occurred in an era when newsprint was the only promotional medium. There was no radio, TV, email, etc.,” said Commander. “I wanted to learn about the theories behind what he was doing and learned to be a better promoter,” he said.
NL READ, modeled after the American Library Association
Read campaign, seeks to promote reading and the use of library services. Award wining photojournalist Jane Feldman photographed the campaign. Thirteen posters were released during the campaign which are available as a gift to persons who make a donation to the Library.
