The flowers are beginning to bloom, grass is turning green and Mother’s Day is a week away. On Sunday, May 9, the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will host its third Mother’s Day breakfast at the Fire Hall on Grange Hall Road from 8 to 11 am. Rather than having a buffet type breakfast, we will be serving to order. Our featured breakfast menu items will be eggs to order, pancakes, sausage, bacon and toast. We are holding the same prices as last year; adults $7, children 6-12 $5 and children under 6 free. Bring your mom and enjoy a morning out.
The Mother’s Day holiday, in the United States and Canada, celebrates motherhood generally, and the positive contributions of mothers to society. It falls on the second Sunday of May. It is the result of a campaign by Anne Marie Jarvis (1864-1948), who, following the death of her mother on May 9, 1905, devoted her life to establishing Mother’s Day as a national, and later an international, holiday. The first observances of both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day were held in the state of West Virginia.
