Drew Webster, named Salutatorian for Berlin High School’s Class of 2010, is another scholar-athlete. Drew is a member of the National Honor Society and currently President of the Student Council.
Drew shared the W.J. Cowee Award last year for his work on a team in Cowee’s Program for International Commerce. The students developed a business plan involving international business issues such as product mix, pricing, distribution
platforms, cultural and political considerations, return on investment, transportation issues, raw materials, labor markets, environmental issues and trade organizations
Drew has been on the varsity baseball, soccer and basketball teams. In basketball he was named Most Valuable Player this year along with Shawn Willis. In soccer, for the past two seasons he was named to the Central Hudson Valley League’s 1st Team All-Stars. He was also honored as the Mountaineers’ Most Valuable Player this year.
Away from school, Drew also plays soccer with the Ajax Soccer Club in Williamstown, MA. He ran in the Run For The Roses 5k footrace last summer with a time of 21:03. He is now in training to run a half marathon on June 13 in Lake Placid. He will be raising funds for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society in honor of Gage Sniger, a 5-year-old in Stephentown who has Leukemia.
Drew also has a flair for dramatics. He appeared as Gideon in the Drama Club’s production of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and also had a part in Guys And Dolls.
Doing all these things and doing a good job of it is a real balancing act. Drew said you have to place things in order. For him it’s school first, then sports, then everything else. Drew has not made up his mind yet as to which college he will attend in the fall. It will probably be either Curry College in Milton, MA, or Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA. His main interest academically right now is English literature and writing.
Drew is the son of Karen Webster and Alan Webster of Petersburgh.
