SML Holiday Silent Auction
The Library will hold a holiday gift raffle from December 3 through December 17. Do your holiday shopping locally and help the Library at the same time. Stop in and see the array of toys, gift items, handcrafted goods, gift certificates and more up for bid in our community room. Locate an item that you want, write your name and phone number along with your highest bid on the corresponding sheet in our gift binder. Stop back often to see if you have been outbid, and raise your bid. Bidding will close at end of the business day on December 17, and winning bidders will be called to pay for and collect their items in time for holiday gift giving. Funds raised will support Library programs.
Stephentown Book Group
The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang by Joyce Carol Oates for its meeting on Thursday, December 3. This “careening joyride” of a novel looks at the lives of five high school girls in a gritty blue-collar town in upstate New York during the 1950s. They form a gang dedicated to female pride, power and vengeance on a world ready to denigrate and destroy them.
Meetings are held in the Community Room at the Stephentown Memorial Library, Main Street, Stephentown from noon to 1 pm. Bring a lunch if you like. Copies of the book are available at the Library desk. New readers are always welcome. For more information, call 518-733-5750.
Wrapping Paper Workshop For Kids
There will be a wrapping paper workshop for about an hour for kids at the Library on Saturday, December 5, at 2 pm with instructor Casey Southard.
Design your own wrapping paper and matching gift tag. Use simple stamps to create pictures and patterns, add freehand flourishes, and you will have a sheet of gift wrap as unique as you are. Wrap a holiday gift with a handmade touch or present your paper and tag as a gift to the favorite wrapper in your life. All materials will be supplied, but space is limited. Please call 733-5750 to reserve a spot so you don’t miss out on the fun.
Make Your Own Mini-Gingerbread House
Join us on Tuesday, December 8, at 6:30 pm as we make mini-gingerbread houses from graham crackers. This is a great activity that is suitable for all ages, including very young children and is led by Rebekkah Corbett. This is a free activity, but we ask that you call ahead for reservations no later than Monday, December 7.
Holiday Bake Sale Fundraiser
Don’t feel like baking for the holidays? We’ve got you covered. Our wonderful volunteers, led by a professional baker, will provide an array of baked goods including pies, candy, cookie trays, breads and more for sale at the Stephentown Memorial Library on Saturday, December 19, from 10 am to 2 PM. Volunteers to bake are also welcome. Specific baked good pre-orders for pies and cheesecakes will be accepted in advance. All funds raised will benefit Library programs.
