Hoosick Falls Girl Scout Troop #1313 and three chaperones, spent five days in mid-August enjoying the sites of Washington, DC. This trip comes after three years of planning and fund raising efforts, so the young women were sure to fit in as much sightseeing as they could – covering many miles on foot and Metrorail. They listened to a U.S. Military Band in front of the Washington Monument, toured the national monuments by day and night, went to four of the Smithsonian Museums (Holocaust, Air & Space, Natural History and American History), had a tour of the Capitol and Senate Chambers, visited the Library of Congress, spent time at the White House Visitor’s Center and grounds, toured Arlington National Cemetery, spent a day at the National Zoo, took in the beautiful architecture of Washington and the LeDroit Park neighborhood where they stayed and much more!
The trip was a memorable experience for Matty Blair, Samantha Brewer, Lauren Conte, Ayla Graney, Paige Graney and Amanda Middleton, all of whom are students at Hoosick Falls Central School. They are all very aware that this trip could not have happened without the support of their friends and families and many local businesses, organizations and individuals, including Patrick Belmar, the office of Legislators Brownell and Goodermote, Culligan Water, Cumberland Farms, the Derby Club, First United Presbyterian Church, Brian Cody and ‘Baby Bear’ of FLY92, Senator Gillibrand’s office, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, Grand Union, Hannaford, HAPPY (Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents and Youth), Nancy Hickey, Hoosick Falls Armory, Hoosick Falls Central School, Hoosick Falls Girl Scouts Service Unit #155, Ladies’ Auxiliary of American Legion, Lions Club, Nickelback Redemption Center, People’s Oil & Gas, Price Chopper, the Reynolds and Weir Foundations, Sam’s Club, Stewart’s, office of Congressman Tonko, and others.
