Five swimmers from Hoosick Falls helped the Bennington Marauders claim both the regional and state titles in their division of the Vermont Swim Association this summer.
Swimming in the 9 and 10-year old division, Sarah Martin earned 18th in the 25 yard freestyle and 12th in the 25 yard backstroke at the regional championship.
At the same meet, Zoey Haar, who swims in the 11 and 12-year old division, won first place in three events including the 50 yard backstroke, the 50 yard butterfly and the 14 and under 200 yard freestyle relay. She also earned 2nd in the 50 yard freestyle, the 100 yard Individual Medley (IM) and the 200 yard medley relay. At the state championships Haar earned 2nd in the 50 yard butterfly, 3rd in the 14 and Under 200 yard freestyle relay, 4th in the 50 yard backstroke and 100 yard IM and 5th in the 50 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley relay.
Kara LaFlamme who also swam in the 11 and 12-year old division participated in the state championships and came away with 19th in the 100 yard free, 21st in the 100 yard IM, 13th in the 100 yard breast, 10th in the 100 yard fly and 7th in the 200 yard medley relay.
In the regional meet 11-year old Emily Martin earned 36th in the 50 yard freestyle, 22nd in the 50 yard breaststroke, 23rd in the 100 yard freestyle and 6th in the relay. At the state championship Martin took 21st in the 100 yard backstroke.
Amy Bird, who swims in the 15 to 19 year old age group, also swam at the regional championships and earned 12th in the 50 freestyle, 7th in the 100 yard breaststroke, 7th in the 50 yard breaststroke and 5th in the 100 yard freestyle. Bird was unavailable for the state meet.
