The Stephentown Memorial Library Summer Reading Program – Be Creative @ Your Library – launches this week with the following special summer events for families at SML:
• Fri., June 26 – Family Movie Night – “Bedtime Stories” – 7 pm. Our family movie this month is a children’s fantasy about a hotel handyman who gradually begins to realize that the imaginative stories he tells his niece and nephew are somehow beginning to come true. This movie is rated PG. Popcorn and juice will be provided.
• Sat., June 27 – Dazzle Dogs at Stephentown Elementary School – 2 pm. Dazzle Dogs is a remarkably unique, talented and dazzling group of dogs that includes corgis, retrievers and an Australian shepherd. These charming canines will delight the audience as they dance, fly over and through agility obstacles and perform stunts. This fun performance will be held at the Stephentown Elementary School gymnasium.
• Wed., July 8 – Marvelous Masks – 1 pm. The Scotia-Glenville Children’s Museum will demonstrate that when you make a mask you create a marvelous character with your imagination. Decorate your creation with markers, feathers, felt and pom-poms and take it home with you for more creative play.
• Thurs., July 9 – Chickens Around the World – 10 am. This program features chickens from around the world including; Speckled Sussex, Blue Andalusians, Cuckoo Maran and others who lay different colors and sizes of eggs. Learn the history and unique characteristics of these breeds, along with basic animal husbandry skills. Children will be able to pet the chickens and ask questions.
• Wed., July 15 – The Singing Ringing Tree – 1 pm. Join Sarah Salerno Thomas for this interactive play in which audience members become the stars of the show. Adapted from a fairy tale about the transforming power of love, all 12 characters ranging from panthers to princes to pigs are portrayed by children from the audience. Celebrate your creative spirit and come join the fun!
• Wed., July 29 – The Art of Felting – 12:15 pm Local artisan, Isabel Krebs will teach us how to do needle felting.Using locally grown llama wool, kid s will create colorful shapes and creatures that they can take home with them. Felting is easy and therapeutic. This program is geared towards children 10 & up. Class size will be limited, so we ask that you register in advance.
• Sat., Aug. 22 – Celebration! -3 pm – Help wrap up our Summer Reading Program with our Annual Ice Cream Social! Games, prizes and certificates for all Summer Reading Program participants.
