Re-enactor Stuart W. Lehman will appear as a Colonial Physician in a program on 18th century medicine at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, May 4. The meeting is at 7:30 pm at the Heritage Center on Garfield Road (County Route 26) in Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. Lehman will bring a hands-on exhibit of the herbs, medicines and implements used during the Revolutionary War period. He will discuss the use of herbs and the skills of trephining, purging and bloodletting, including the use of medicinal leeches. He developed this program over many years working as an educator at a variety of historic sites, including Herkimer Home, Senate House, Schuyler Mansion and Saratoga National Historical Park. He is currently an Education Coordinator for the New York State Office of General Services where he develops and presents programs and conducts research related to the New York State Capitol Building. On weekends he participates in Revolutionary War re-enactments as a Colonial Doctor.
