The fourth planning meeting for the 4th Annual American Indian Pow Wow and Music Festival is happening April 30 at 6 pm at Hoosick Tire on Rt. 7 in Hoosick. Pow Wow updates and festival information will be shared at this meeting. Individuals, groups and/or organizations interested in vending or having food concessions may attend. Local artists and craftspersons are also invited to attend. Those interested in supporting the Pow Wow and Music Festival as volunteers or outreach coordinators may also attend.
Buffalo chili and refreshments will be served by the host organization, Healing Winds. Interested community members are invited to bring a dish as it is a potluck meeting. Buffalo will be provided by Gem Farms, a local buffalo farm in Castleton, NY.
The 4th Annual Rock, Rattle and Shake Pow Wow and Spirit on the Mountain Music Festival is happening August 7, 8 and 9. There will be a black powder and traditional bow/recurve archery contest for youth and adults. There will also be a “BEST OF” pie baking, chili, quilt and bread contest as well. A horsemanship, pole and barrel racing contest is being seriously considered and explored. All contests have BEST OF cash awards.
French and Indian war period re-enactors and period guild demonstrations will also be an educational and cultural component of this year’s Pow Wow because of the “Hudson 400” celebration in Albany and Rennselaer County. Back by popular demand and an audience favorite from last year Bill Miller, Mohican recording artist and two-time Grammy award winner, will be the featured and premier national act on Saturday evening, August 9. Rev Tor, a local Rock ’n Roll Jam band will headline the Festival’s opening night on Friday evening, August 7. This is an alcohol free event and a very family friendly weekend with individual adult and family/group camping sites available.
Area Rod & Reel clubs as well as hunter’s clubs and groups are encouraged to promote this aspect of the Pow Wow and Music Festival amongst their youth and adult memberships. A portion of the proceeds from registration ($15 per person) will go into a community fund to provide additional hand gun and rifle safety and awareness programs in the public schools of the region.
The Pow Wow and Festival location site is behind Gardner’s Ice Cream and Diner on Rt. 22 near the intersection of Rt. 43 on the six hundred acre putting range and nearby fields for parking.
