On Wednesday, April 1, the public is invited to attend a Town Hall Meeting at the Berlin Firehouse beginning at 6:30 pm. The students of the BCS SADD Chapter (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in collaboration with Rensselaer County Unified Services and the Tobacco Free Healthy Schools Program will present some startling statistics regarding alcohol, tobacco and drug use among our area youth. A student panel will also be present to answer questions as to why area youth are making the decision to use alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
The evening will also include guest speaker John Underwood. Underwood, President and founder of the American Athletic Institute, teaches students, coaches and community members on the effects that drugs and alcohol have on athletic performance. Underwood has coached 28 Olympic athletes, five of whom have medaled in the Olympic Games.
Prior to the presentations by the SADD Chapter students and John Underwood, a free dinner will be served to all that attend. There will be dessert and a drawing for a $25 Visa Gift Card and movie passes to conclude the evening. If you are concerned with the alcohol, tobacco and drug use among our area teens, you will not want to miss this enlightening and informative evening. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Kellie Kaschak, School Nurse Teacher, at 658-2515 ext. 224 or Anne Lazarony, Guidance Counselor, at 658-2515 ext. 219.
