The Berlin Lady Mountaineers took just one quarter to show the visiting Warrensburg team why they have high hopes this post season. The #7 seed Berlin jumped out to a 11-4 lead in the first quarter over the #12 seed Burgers, led by six points by Lindsey DePaolis. The Lady Mountaineers connected on several long passes to DePaolis in the first quarter for fast break layups, helping Berlin open up the lead.
Once the second quarter started, Berlin showed no mercy, scoring 10 unanswered points and stretching the lead out to 21-4. DePaolis scored another six points in that frame and was helped by five points from center Angel Reed, including a big three-pointer to start the quarter. The Lady Mountaineers scored 18 second quarter points while only allowing 6 by Warrensburg. At the half, Berlin had put up a 29-10 lead.
In the third quarter Berlin continued to find the bottom of the basket but struggled to contain Warrensburg’s Carol White. White scored 8 of the Burgers’ 13 points in the third quarter. That was not enough though, as Berlin scored 14 points and stretched the lead to twenty points at 43-23. In the final quarter the visiting team finally managed to gain some ground, outscoring Berlin 12-10. Ten of their twelve points came from White again, who buried a pair of three-pointers to try to bring her team back to life. Unfortunately for the Burgers, it was too little, too late as Berlin won 53-35.
DePaolis scored 20 points to lead Berlin, and Angel Reed added 13 points. The Lady Mountaineers will now travel to #2 seed Greenwich to play on Friday at 7:30 pm.
