Some of the Heavenly Quilters of Stephentown presented a check in the amount of $1,200 to The Elizabeth Freeman Center in Pittsfield, MA.
Accepting the check were Kim Borden Director of the Center and Debbie Parkington Director of Programs. Along with the check, cuddle quilts with teddy bears were given to the Center for use by the children who arrive there from abused homes. The Center accommodates anyone in the Berkshire area along with people in the Stephentown and New Lebanon area who are in need of help.
The Heavenly Quilters do a quilt for raffle nearly every year and then choose a local organization who is in need of funds. It is their way of serving the community in many facets along with challenging themselves in new methods of quilting and sharing. Another quilt is being planned and will be ready for viewing in the near future. The funds will be donated to the tremendous roofing project of the Federated Church in Stephentown. The group is learning about the Underground Railroad and this new quilt will depict quilt patterns that were used to help guide the slaves north to freedom. For information on the group contact 413-243-1071, 518-733-5278 or any member of the Heavenly Quilters. They meet every Tuesday morning from 9 to 11 at the Federated Church, Garfield Road, Stephentown.
