U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Joshua A Haviland graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia S.C. on December 12, 2008. He was part of the 2/60 Infantry Battalion.
During nine weeks of training he studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat and field maneuvers and tactics.
Private Haviland, now stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, is part of Delta Company, 232d Medical Battalion which trains and graduates highly motivated, disciplined, physically fit, technically and tactically competent Soldier Medics. After completion of Advanced Individual Training Private Haviland will graduate on April 14 and return home as a certified medic and continue to serve the National Guard. He is part of the Troop B 1 BN Cavalry of the Bennington, Vermont National Guard.
Pvt. Haviland is the son of Alisa and Bob Martin of Buskirk and Ricky and April Haviland of Cambridge. He is the grandson of Carol and Stanley Hunt and Betty and Stanley Haviland of Buskirk.
