On November 7 eight eighth-graders from Berlin Middle School participated in GEMS (Girls Excited about Engineering, Math and Computer Science) at Russell Sage College in Troy. GEMS feature day long programs with hands-on workshops in engineering, math and computer science for students, as well as teachers and school counselors. In addition, the girls had the opportunity to listen and ask questions of a panel of women who currently are working in these fields. The day ended with a tour of the campus. This program aims to excite girls about technically related fields and to raise awareness of the study and career options available to women in these areas.
