Panthers Teams Are All Undefeated In League Play

February 19, 2015 By eastwickpress

By Steve Bradley

The HFCS Panthers finished the winter season undefeated in league play in all sports. The Boys basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling and Bowling teams did not lose a league game all season.

In WASAREN league play, the Lady Panther basketball team is 14 – 0 (16 – 1 overall), the boys basketball team is 14 – 0 (18 – 0 overall), wrestling is 4 – 0 (7 – 9 overall). HFCS bowling competes in the Adirondack League where they finished 14 – 0 (47 – 1 overall).

The bowling team recently finished second in Section II (Sectionals). The wrestlers had two champions in sectionals over the past weekend. Sectional basketball for both boys and girls begins next week and both teams may be number one seeds.

Credit for this  great accomplishment goes, in adition to the athletes themselves, to the community for all the things it provides from early ages for its youth, and to the School District for the great support it gives its sports programs. Perhaps the great Panthers fans that come out to support the teams have made a contribution as well.

The coaches, from T-ball to majors, Raiders and Irish football, Youth Center basketball on Saturday morning all provide the basis for this fantastic success. The WASAREN League is considered one of the most competitive leagues in New York State.

HF 52  Greenwich 50

Andrew Hoag scored 25 points, 13 in the third quarter, to lead the Hoosick Falls Panthers past the Greenwich Witches last Wednesday evening. With the WASAREN League championship on the line, both teams had everything to win. The Panthers came into the contest undefeated. The Witches had one loss, a 42 – 38 loss to Hoosick Falls in the first meeting of the season. A win by Greenwich would leave both teams with one loss and the teams tied for the league championship. Both teams play league games Friday, and both are favored to win.

HFCS Ladies Win Going Into Sectionals

February 19, 2015 By eastwickpress

By Steve Bradley

The Panther Ladies basketball team finished its regular season over the past week with wins over Greenwich and Granville.

HF 65   Greenwich 52

The Panthers got 21 points and 20 rebounds from Megan Flynn to lead the Panthers over the potent Witches. Greenwich, with Alexis Case, is a difficult win, but the Panthers defeated them handily for the second time this season. Rachel Pine added 15 points. Anna Wysocki did her part by pulling down ten rebounds. Greenwich’s Alexis Case scored 19 points.

HF 68  Granville 38

The Panthers never let the Granville Horde even think for a moment they had a chance of winning this game. Blasting out to a 33 – 16 halftime lead, the Panthers never let up and blasted away the Horde by 30 points. Megan Flynn had 18 points and 17 rebounds. Rachel Pine added 13 points, and her sister, Kelly, dropped in 11 points and hauled down 12 rebounds.

The Ladies are ranked number three in the state by the New York State Sportwriters Assoc. With the regular season concluded, the Panthers now move into sectional play. Seedings will be held midweek and games will begin early next week.
