St. Mary’s Academy Comedy And Carols Holiday Cabaret

On Saturday, December 6, St. Mary’s Academy of Hoosick Falls will hold its annual Cabaret. This year it will feature two very different acts to get you into that holiday spirit. The Comedy and Carols Cabaret will feature performances by comedians Greg Aidala and Ben Geurin and musicians Mike and Cindy Brewster and Friends. Doors open at 6:30 pm so you can start bidding early on the silent auction items featuring the very popular and sentimental classroom projects plus many more items to choose from before the show starts at 7:30 pm.

This is a 21 and over event with a cash bar and light fair buffet available throughout the night. Tickets cost $25 per person and are on sale now. The performance will be held at St. Mary’s Academy, 4 Parsons Avenue, Hoosick Falls.

Jerry Powell Basketball Results Clinic Returns to Hoosac School

Jerry Powell and his elite team of trainers will be returning to Hoosac School to conduct a tune up basketball clinic on Sunday, November 9. This clinic will focus on fine tuning the fundamentals prior to beginning the basketball season.

The clinic is open to boys and girls in grades 4-12.  The cost is $25 per player.  Payment for clinic is due at the door on the day of the clinic.  Checks should be made payable to Jerry Powell’s Basketball Results Clinic.

Clinic times are  9 to 11:15 am for fourth-sixth grades, 11:30 am to 1:15 pm  for seventh and eighth grades and 1:30 to 3:15 pm for ninth-twelfth grades

A Great Day For A Cow Plop

Sunday, October 12, was a great day for a Cow Plop. The weather was ideal! The antique cars gleamed in the sun. There were plenty of games to play and rides in the barrel train for the kids. Folks waited in a long line for food and soft drinks. The grid squares were sold out early. There was even a Cow Plop song!

Basketball Trainer To The Pros To Hold Clinic At Hoosac School

Jerry Powell and his elite team of trainers will be holding a basketball clinic on Sunday, October 5, from 8 am to 6 pm at the Hoosac School, located on Pine Valley Road, in Hoosick.

Powell has trained NBA superstars such as LeBron James, Paul George and Rajon Rondo and WNBA standouts Bria Hartley and Sammy Prahalis.

The clinic is open to boys and girls in grades 4 to 12.  The cost is $25 per player.

Pre-registration is required by September 26.  To register you can email player name and grade level to Mike Ryan at mryan@hoosac.org or call him at 518-605-9946 or Noordin Said at 347-581-5004.

Darrow School Opens 83rd Year

Darrow School is celebrating the start of its 83rd school year by welcoming 110 students to its scenic mountainside campus. Eighty percent of the students are boarders and 20 percent are day students. The school is welcoming its largest ninth grade class in years, with 20 individuals. Students come from Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Vermont. Approximately 28  percent are international students representing nine countries, including the Bahamas, China, Jamaica, Japan, Ghana, Nigeria, Russia, Taiwan and Turkey. The first full day of classes is Tuesday, September 2.

This a diverse group of students with a wide spectrum of interests, talents and abilities, and it is also incredibly strong academically. The faculty is excited about helping these scholars reach their maximum potential.

Darrow has a rolling admissions policy and offers mid-year enrollment on a limited basis. The school will host four Open House sessions in the coming months, providing an ideal opportunity for prospective families to tour the scenic campus, sit in on classes, and meet teachers and students. Open House sessions will be held on Monday, October 13, Tuesday, November 11, Monday, January 19, and Monday, February 16. The Future Of The Wood Block Building Is Now

This Saturday evening, July 26, Hoosac School is hosting a concert to benefit the restoration of the Wood Block’s historic third floor. The program of Opera Arias and Show Tunes will be performed by Oren Gradus and Mariona Pallach accompanied by gifted pianist, opera coach and accomplished conductor Jennifer Peterson. Gradus has performed in many of the world’s greatest opera houses. Pallach, an award winning vocalist and voice instructor, is from Catalonia, Spain.

St. Mary’s Academy Golf Scramble

The 14th annual St. Mary’s Academy Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, August 8, at the scenic Hoosick Falls Country Club. Tee off times are 8 am and 1 pm. The cost is $70 per golfer and includes 18 holes with cart, lunch and a lite fare supper for four and five person teams. There is special pricing for teams that also sponsor a hole.

Non-golfers/spectators are also invited to come and cheer the teams on. If non-golfers/spectators want to be included in the lunch and lite fare supper the cost is $15.
