St. Mary’s Academy’s Annual Funtastic Fair is next weekend, June 11 and 12. This year marks the Fair’s 35th anniversary, and, along with the traditional games and attractions, there will be rides for young and old from Amyland Amusements, our own version of the popular game show “Minute to Win It” and inside spaces for vendors. The fee for vendor spaces is just $20 for both days of the Fair.
The Fair runs on Friday from 5 to 10 pm and on Saturday from noon until 10 pm. Call the school at 686-4314 ext. 202 for more information on vendor spaces or if you would like to sponsor a booth in memory of a loved one or your SMA graduating class.

St. Mary’s Academy Spring Auction
St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls is holding its Annual Spring Auction on Saturday, April 17, at the school at 4 Parsons Avenue. Priceless works of art created by the students will be up for bid as well as a Queen Natural Form Mattress Set from WCW, Mets baseball tickets for the June 6 game against the Florida Marlins, 3-day accommodations on Martha’s Vineyard, brunch for 4 at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, autographed jerseys from Donovan McNabb, Chris Pronger and Andre Iguodala, season passes to Hathaway’s Drive-In in North Hoosick and much more! Doors open at 6 pm, and the live auction will begin at 7 pm. Light fare and a cash bar will be available. Call the school at 686-4314 for more details.
From Sheep To Floor For St. Mary’s Auction
Mrs. Merwin’s seventh grade class at St. Mary’s Academy has been hard at work on their class project to be put up for bid at St. Mary’s Annual Spring Auction. The students are starting with wool from a local Shetland sheep to create a naturally dyed and hand braided rug. This year’s Auction will be held on Saturday, April 17.

First Place Winners From St. Mary’s Meet Odyssey Founder Sam Micklus
St. Mary’s Academy’s eighth grade Odyssey of the Mind team competed in the state finals at SUNY Binghamton last weekend after winning first place in the Division II balsa wood engineering regional competition last month. The St. Mary’s team scored a shared third place in the spontaneous problem solving portion of the state competition. The winning eighth grade team includes Libby Cass, Maggie Murdock and Erin Murdock of Stephentown, Anthony Chapones, Alyssa Giordano and Alex LaBarge of Hoosick Falls and Nate Winchester of Cambridge, NY.

Fish Fry Friday Challenge is Met
St. Mary’s Academy parent and head fish fry chef, Jerry McAuliffe, challenged the students and families to help the school sell 150 fish fry dinners last Friday. That goal was exceeded so Mr. McAuliffe made good on his promise to shave his head and beard!

Free “Beginnings!” Program
Pine Cobble School invites families with children aged 2-4 to its free Beginnings! program. Offered on alternate Tuesdays in April and May, preschool-aged children and their caregivers will participate in creative activities followed by open play on Pine Cobble’s beautiful 25-acre campus.

St. Pat’s Parade Grand Marshals Are Chosen

Three 1952 St. Mary’s Academy graduates will be the Grand Marshals of the Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year. Patricia Carknard, Nancy McCabe and Margaret O’Malley, all raised in the village by Irish mothers, will all celebrate their 75th birthdays this year. They attended St. Mary’s Academy, and in the seventh grade their Irish teacher, Sister St. Gerard, made sure they all learned how to do the Irish Jig before they left her class. Lenten Fish Fry Fridays Are Back
St. Mary’s Academy will be holding its second annual Fish Fry Friday night dinners throughout Lent. Dinners will be served from 5 to 7 pm, or until sold out, at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall through March 26. Dinners are $8 and include hand battered fish fry, french fries, coleslaw, dessert and your choice of our famous homemade tartar or cocktail sauce. Dinners available for eat in or take out.
