Local Students In Hoosac School Christmas Show

Jason Rodgers, IIIrd Former and son of Mr. and Mrs. David Rodgers of Hoosick Falls, Blake Barnhill, IInd Former and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barnhill of Petersburgh, Eli Jones, IInd Former and son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones of Pownal, VT, and Haylee Manktelow IIIrd Former and daughter of Mrs. Beth Mitchell of Salem, NY, have been busy rehearsing since late October for the 118th production of Hoosac School’s Boar’s Head and Yule Log. The annual production involves all of Hoosac’s boys and girls and faculty members.

The Colors of the Rainbow: Girl Scouts Come Together

On Friday, November 5, more than 65 Girl Scouts, ranging in age from 5 to 17, and many of their leaders and mothers, came together in a burst of color for their annual “lock-in” sleepover at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. This year’s theme of Colors of the Rainbow gave girls an opportunity to show their differences in ages, shapes, sizes, colors, backgrounds, personalities and interests while also representing their unity and the bright futures that Girl Scouts is helping them to achieve.

St. Mary’s Academy Holiday Cabaret

On Friday, December 3, St. Mary’s Academy will host its Eighth Annual Holiday Cabaret; when the Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors. In alphabetical order, Channel 6’s Jerry Gretzinger, joins forces with News Channel 13’s Jessica Layton and Benita Zahn for an evening of song and banter. Although the anchors are sometimes direct competitors in their newscasts, this is a rare opportunity to see these three broadcasters joining together in perfect harmony. Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors was created and shaped by the performers in creative consultation with Fort Salem’s Artistic Director Jay Kerr, who arranged the music and accompanies the singers on keyboard.

Darrow School Hosts Empty Bowls Benefit

On Wednesday, November 17, at 6 pm, Darrow School will host Empty Bowls, a special community meal designed to bring awareness to world hunger. Proceeds from the event, which is also supported by the Mountain Road School in New Lebanon, with food by Brock Food Services, will benefit Charlie’s Pantry, a New Lebanon based food bank, and Oxfam America, one of the country’s largest nonprofits dedicated to creating lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice. Firefighters Visit St. Mary’s Academy

As Part of Fire Prevention Week local Firefighters visited  St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls on Friday October 8. The firefighters spoke to the children about fire safety, smoke detectors, family escape plans, how to stop, drop and roll, the importance of knowing their home addresses and how and who to call in an emergency.
