New Lebanon/Berlin Swim Teams Loses To St. Joe’s

The New Lebanon/Berlin swim team hosted St. Joe’s of Pittsfield, MA, on Tuesday, January 21. St. Joe’s Aileen Archambault hit a Western Mass time in the 200 freestyle.

Mountaineer Boys Basketball Round Up

New Lebanon/Berlin Girls Swim Team Edged Out By Taconic

In an exciting meet on Wednesday, January 8, in New Lebanon Taconic High School of Pittsfield edged out the NL/B girls by 6, 50 to 44; it came down to the last race. Taconic’s Gillian Campbell hit a Massachusetts state qualifying time in the 50 free with a 26.91 and anchored the 400 relay that took first and the win. New Lebanon/Berlin’s Amanda Despart hit a NYS sectional time in the 50 Free (29.58) and the 100 Free (1:07.11).

On the boys side, New Lebanon/Berlin’s Evan Burgess hit a NYS sectional time in the 50 free (25.22) and the 100 Free (58.89).

The two teams go at it again on Friday, January 10, at Taconic’s pool at the Pittsfield YMCA.

PTA Holiday Craft Fair

The Walter B. Howard Elementary School’s PTA is sponsoring a Holiday Craft Fair on December 7 from 9 am to 3 pm in the New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium. Over 40 vendors will be present plus there will be a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle. The kitchen will be open from 9 am to 2:30 pm. There will be School Spirit items as well as many items and crafts.

Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner Planned For November 23

The New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School’s Appetites Anonymous/Food Club will be sponsoring a Thanksgiving Dinner for the community on Saturday, November 23. The dinner will be held in the school cafeteria from 4:30 to 6 pm. It is free.

To help the Club plan for the appropriate amount of food to serve, community members who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by November 20. The number at the Jr./Sr. High School is 794-7600.

“We hope that people who may not be able to enjoy a turkey dinner otherwise will take advantage of it,” said Michelle Daus, Club Advisor.

The New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School’s Appetites Anonymous/Food Club is focused on helping students who are interested in learning more about advanced cooking techniques and exploring careers in the food industry.

New Lebanon Teacher Selected As Outstanding New Business Educator For 2013

New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School business teacher, Michelle Daus, has been selected for the Julian A. Milkes Award for Outstanding New Business Educator for 2013. The award was presented to Daus at the Business Teachers Association of New York State’s (BTANYS) annual convention October 3-4 in Buffalo.

Community Invited To Chili Cook-Off

New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School’s Appetites Anonymous/Food Club will be sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off on Veteran’s Day, November 11, in honor of our veterans. The event will be held in the school’s cafeteria from 1 to 2:30 pm. Anyone who would like to bring a crock pot of chili is welcome. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 and, for those entering chili in the cook-off, $2. Veterans participate for free – whether they bring chili or not.
Attendees can sample all chili entries and vote for their favorite. The winner will be announced at the end of the event. The Food Club will provide corn muffins and beverages. Proceeds from this event go toward supplies needed for a community Thanksgiving Dinner the Club will sponsor November 23.
The Appetites Anonymous/Food Club focuses on helping students who are interested in learning more advanced cooking techniques and exploring careers in this industry.

Tiger Volleyball Records First Win

The New Lebanon Volleyball team defeated St. Joe’s of Pittsfield, MA, by the score of 25-10, 25-21, 25-18 for its first win of the year. New Lebanon was led by senior Brianna Springstead who had 17 points off serve and 12 aces. Senior Khalan Fish chipped in with 5 kills. Junior Jeanie Smith had 11 points off serve and 4 aces. Freshman Brianne Casella had 9 points off serve.
