Last Saturday night at Stillwater High School, the Hoosick Falls Panthers faced an unfamiliar situation for the first time all year, a halftime deficit. The Fonda – Fultonville Braves scored 14 first half points; the Panthers scored 7. How the Panthers dealt with this situation is the mark of a good team. Coming from behind, especially against good teams, is what championship teams do.

Last Saturday the Panthers took to the Stillwater field on a cold, blustery day. A win would give the Panthers a chance to participate in the 2014 Section II, Class C Super Bowl. The team was playing Corinth, a team they faced several weeks earlier and didn’t play particularly well against. The Panthers defeated the Warriors 30 – 7 in that earlier game but struggled doing it.

On Saturday, October 25, the HFCS PTA held its fourteenth annual Fall Festival. HFCS was bustling, with lots of attendees, and bursting with spirit, with vendors selling their wares, kids doing craft projects, young and young-at-heart dancing the “cake walk” and folks tapping their feet to the HFCS Jazz Band. Everyone enjoyed baked goods made by the many volunteers and the food provided by the Lions Club.
The raffle items were a big hit, and the winners of them were quite pleased. The Mommy & Me prize was won by Wendy Beattie, a Will Moses Print by Denise Pine, The Family Night Package by Wendy Boomhower, the 50/50 raffle by Laura Andrews and the teacher whose decorated pumpkin was selected by popular vote was first grade teacher Sarah Bushey for “Elsa” from the movie Frozen. Each of the vendors also awarded door prizes. Congratulations to all the winners!
The ultimate winners, though, are the students of HFCS and our community. The PTA is pleased that the festival continues to be about making a commitment to families and helping to bring them together with friends for some fun, to meet new people and to buy great local products. The PTA doesn’t raise a lot on this event because that’s not its purpose, but what is raised helps the PTA to continue its financial support of classrooms and to bring special programs to the children and parents in our school district.
Thank You
The PTA would like to extend thanks to all the local businesses and groups who offered their support, talents and products including Mind’s Eye Photography, Maggie’s Beauty Salon, Herrington’s Pumpkins, McDonald’s, Peg Caron Custom Framing, Sue Hale, the Lions Club for its free eye screening, Christine Still, Key Club and C&H Fundraising.
Special thanks to the dedicated HFCS Custodial Staff. In addition, the PTA couldn’t get the festival off the ground each year without the tireless efforts of its many dedicated volunteers and the generous support of the vendors and school personnel.
