BCS Code Of Conduct Night
The Berlin High School Code of Conduct night for all middle school and high school athletes will be Wednesday, September 7, at 6:30 pm at the Berlin High School.
Students are required to have one parent or guardian with them at this meeting. Those not attending will be unable to participate in any athletic contests.
BCS Has A New Superintendant Of Schools

The search for a new Superintendent of Schools for the Berlin School District has come to a successful conclusion. School Board President Gina Goodermote announced at the monthly School Board meeting on Tuesday that as of August 26, Dr. Stephen M. Young will be permanently filling that position.

Local Kids Attend Eastern States Youth To Youth Conference

TRACs (Together Reducing Alcohol and drugs in our CommunitieS) proudly sent six dynamic youth from our area to the Eastern States Youth to Youth Conference in Rhode Island on July 28-31. The registration for the Y2Y Conference was funded by the Drug Free Mentoring Grant that TRACs was awarded from Rensselaer County Mental Health’s Federal Drug Free Communities Grant.

BCS Sports Practice Begins
Berlin Central H.S. will begin Fall Sports practices on Monday August 22 at the following times:
• Boys JV and Varsity Soccer 8:30 to 10:30 am.
• Girls JV and Varsity Soccer – Fitness Training 9 to 11 am – this practice is optional. Soccer practice 5 to 7 pm – this practice is mandatory.
• Girls JV and Varsity Volleyball 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
• Varsity Cross Country 8 to 9:30 am and 6 to 7:30 pm.
• Girls Modified and Boys Modified Soccer will start the first day of School on September 7, 2:30 to 4 pm. Kids can sign up for the 4:15 bus.
Berlin Middle School News
Sixth Grade Locker Night
Sixth Grade Locker Night is August 24 from 6:30 to 7 pm.
Students will receive their combination, lock and locker on this important night. They are welcome to bring items to decorate their lockers and may also take their lock home for the remainder of the summer to practice.
We will also briefly go over how to read your child’s schedule.
Important Message From The Health Office
If you have not yet submitted proof to the Health Office that your child has received the mandated Tdap immunization, please bring proof of the immunization with you on locker night. If proof of this immunization is not received by August 31, your child will not be allowed to begin school on September 6.
BCS Student Wins Carpentry Competition
Brandon DeShane, who graduated in June from high school in the Berlin Central School District and who attended the Rensselaer Vocational Center and studied Construction Technology competed in the SkillsUSA Regional Carpentry Competition at the Schenectady Airbase in February 2011. Brandon won 1st place in the Regional Carpentry Competition whereby he was sent to the States Competition in Syracuse.

Berlin BOE Has Another Nightmare

An email exchange forwarded to the Eastwick Press provides an alarming look at the Berlin Central School Board’s actions in their attempt to hire a new Superintendent of Schools for the District. The emails contained statements not normally heard at meetings between Board Members Alan Webster, Jr., Bev Stewart, Board President Gina Goodermote and Board Vice President Jim Willis.

TRACs Needs An Advance To Send Volunteers To Underage Drinking Conference
The TRACs (Together Reducing Alcohol and Drugs in our Communities) Coalition is asking local industry and/or private individuals to help fund attendance at a national conference then be reimbursed by the County; the federal funds are already in place.
