Senior Sarah Cooke – BCS Artist Of The Month
Sarah Cooke is currently taking the Introduction to Drawing & Painting and Introduction to Photography courses at BCS. Sarah takes pride in working hard on her assignments to increase her art skills. One of the first of many problems the Berlin School District’s new Superintendent, Dr. Stephen Young, wanted to address when he started work this fall was communication. “We have to sell BCS to the community, each community,” said Young in an interview with the Eastwick Press on September 30. At that time he envisioned visiting each town in the District to outline his new ideas, and in the past few weeks he has been doing just that.

With a $6.8 million Capital Project coming up for referendum on December 13, the fact that not a word of it appeared on the agenda of the Berlin School District’s Board of Education meeting Wednesday, the last meeting before the vote, seemed a glaring omission.
Just as the meeting was coming to a close, resident and parent Julie Harrell took it upon herself to try to bring the plan’s existence into the realm of public consciousness. “Half the people in this valley don’t even know this is going on,” stated Harrell.

Area Veterans Honored At The Berlin Middle/High School

On Thursday, November 10, at the Berlin Middle/High School eleven veterans, some with guests, were enjoying a delicious breakfast put on by Dianne Mosher and a crew of students. While the veterans ate a hearty meal, the sixth grade class was busy writing letters, decorating cards and making bright red poppies to commemorate the veterans. Town Meetings With Stephen Young
Dr. Stephen Young, Superintendent of the Berlin Central School District, has held two of the scheduled “town meetings” at the local libraries. The last two meetings are scheduled to begin at 7 pm with the next meeting scheduled for the Grafton Town Library on November 22. Mountaineer Boys XC Takes Section II, Class D Runner-Up

The Berlin boys cross country team took second place in Class D at the Section II Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 4, at Saratoga State Park. Alex French led the way for Berlin with a 10th place finish in 17:14. The Mountaineers packed their next seven runners into a 22 second span, finishing from 14th place to 23rd place to secure second place as a team in the race.
