This Friday, April 20, from 4 to 7 pm, the Berlin High senior class will be selling fresh made pizzas. This is our fifth time doing it, and we are getting better every time. Cheese pizzas and white pizzas start at $8 each and toppings are $1 each. Toppings include pepperoni, sausage, ham, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives, pineapple, broccoli and jalapeños. I am shocked that the Berlin Board of Education did not approve of the Bond.

Touch Tank Helps Students Learn Marine Biology

Excited second-graders from Berlin Elementary School got a chance to learn something about marine biology last week. On Thursday morning they gathered around fish tanks in the Middle/High School library as high school students explained about sea life. This was hands on learning. BCS Still At An Impasse In Third Vote On Bond Financing

For the third week in a row the Berlin Central School Board meeting opened with a vote on the authorization of a $5.1 million bond for the Capital Project.
Once again School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Young reminded the Board that this project is “for the benefit of the student.” The buildings, especially the elementary school, are in need of urgent repairs to bring them up to State mandated standards. “It is the students who will suffer further without these repairs,” added Young.

Young Shocked By BCS Bond Impasse

At last week’s Berlin School Board meeting, the Board failed to vote to authorize a bond of $5.1 million for the renovation of its school buildings and for bringing the Berlin School District closer to School Superintendant Dr. Stephen Young’s vision of a 21st century school district. Board President Gina Goodermote and Board Member Jim Willis had put together a plan to use $5.1 million in State aid and $1.75 million of the District’s Capital Reserve fund for this purpose.

Schaghticoke Fair Scholarships – $1,000 Scholarships To Be Awarded
The Schaghticoke Fair announced recently that up to ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to current New York State high school seniors and also students enrolled in college. The New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs and the New York State Showpeople’s Association sponsor the scholarships.

BCS Board Fails To Authorize Capital Project Financing

Although Berlin School District taxpayers voted in December to approve floating a bond of $5 million to fix up school buildings, when it came time for the School Board to actually authorize the financing, the votes were lacking. At their meeting on Tuesday the School Board voted 4-3 to authorize the bonding, but by State law a 2/3rds majority is required for such an authorization, so the resolution did not pass. The BCS Family Comes Together For Lisa Hendricks
Friends, family, classmates, teachers, former teachers and community members are coming together to help Lisa Minkler Hendricks (BCS 2000) and her family. Lisa is undergoing cancer treatment at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. Being associated with Berlin Central is like being in a big family.
