BES Students Participate In New, Hands-On Science Program

This year Berlin Elementary School students are participating in an all new, inquiry based science program geared at sparking their interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and preparing them for Middle School and High School.

BCS Boys Soccer Wrap Up

BCS 8                   Germantown  0

The Berlin boys varsity soccer team exploded for 8 goals to sink the clippers from Germantown 8 to 0. Berlin goal scorers were Zach Spaniol with 2 goals and 2 assists, Ryan Willis with 2 goals and a goal apiece from Carter Dawes, Matt Montero, Ryan Shumway and Kyle Burdick. Keel Krumenacker had 3 assists, and Ethan Mars had 1. Jackson Burhans and Colin Love combined for the shutout in goal with 5 saves.

BCS 1     Loudonville Christian 0

In an early season battle for first place the Mountaineer boys varsity soccer team battled with Loudonville Christian for 64 minutes in a scoreless game when Ryan Willis scored the game winning goal on an assist from Keel Krumenacker. Jackson Burhans made several key saves and Seiji Akera, Calvin Mars and Dan Bentley played a strong defensive game. Joe Sweener, Zach Spaniol and Kyle Burdick passed the ball extremely well in the midfield.

BCS 2                       Waterford 1

The boys varsity soccer team squeezed out a 2 to 1 win over Waterford. Ryan Willis scored the first Berlin goal at the start of the game to take the early lead. Seiji Akera made an outstanding save late in the first half to prevent Waterford from scoring.

Waterford tied the score early in the second half. Jackson Burhans came up with several saves on corner kicks from Waterford to keep the game tied. Then Keel Krumenacker scored the winning goal with 10 minutes left in the game on an assist from Ryan Shumway.

Berlin JV Boys Soccer Off To A Strong Start

The Berlin boys JV soccer team is off to a good start. The boys have completed 9 games already this season, and their record is 5-3-1. With a full roster the team is very competitive even against schools in the bigger divisions.

New Lebanon Volleyball Wins First Game

The New Lebanon Girls Varsity Volleyball team defeated Berlin 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 26-24) for its first win of the season.

New Lebanon was led by Caitlyn Williams with 13 points off serve and 6 aces, Jeanie Smith with 10 points off serve and 5 aces and Brianne Casella with 12 points off serve and 5 aces. Alex Miller had 6 kills.

Berlin had great games by Zoelie Gagnon, 4 points off serve, 2 kills and 6 assists, and Cassie Bentley, 3 points off serve, 6 kills and 4 assists.

The BCS Board Discusses The Berlin Elementary School Construction

The September meeting of the Berlin School Board, Tuesday, September 16, was a swift one, with only continuing construction in the District and transportation to Tech Valley High School demanding any discussion.

To the delight of probably a few young students, the Berlin Elementary School did not open when it was supposed to open on September 4 due to continuing construction in the building. The District decided to extend summer a few more days in the interest of safety, and BES opened for business on September 8.

BCS Boys Soccer Wrap Up

In the boys varsity soccer game on Friday, September 12, New Lebanon’s Justin Bingham scored on a misplayed ball by a Berlin defender to take a 1 to 0 lead at the half. Late in the second half Zack Spaniol scored on a corner kick from Ryan Shumway to tie the game at 1. Both teams had numerous chances in overtime, but neither team could get a lucky bounce. New Lebanon keeper Evan Burgess had 14 saves. Berlin goalie Jackson Burhans had 12 saves There were no cards in the game.

BCS 3       Doane Stuart 2

On Tuesday, September 16, the boys varsity soccer team trailed 2 to 0 early in the first half. Then Jackson Burhans and Colin Love came into the game to provide some spark and give the boys soccer team a 3 to 2 win over Doane Stuart.

Ethan Mars scored two goals in the first half to tie the game at half time on an assist from Matt Rokjer and Keel Krumenacker. Colin Love made 6 saves in goal while Jackson Burhans played a strong midfield game.

In the second half Krumenacker scored the game winning goal on an assist from Matt Rokjer.

BCS Boys Varsity Soccer Wins New Lebanon Tournament

The BCS Boys Varsity Soccer team defeated St. Joe’s of Pittsfield, MA, 3 to 1 in the New Lebanon Tournament. Keel Krumenacker, Matt Montero and Zach Spaniol scored a goal apiece. Ryan Willis and Ethan Mars each had an assist. Jackson Burhans had 10 saves in goal backed by the strong defensive play of Dan Bentley, Matt Rokjer, Seiji Akera and Calvin Mars.

Two BCS FCCLA Members Attend Summer Leadership Training

Two Berlin Central FCCLA members attended Summer Leadership training in Owego, NY, July 28-30.  Haley Hicks, a Junior Leader, and Katie Mellett, a State Officer Elect, and their chaperones, Tammy Osterhout and Advisor Dianne Mosher, attended workshops and work sessions, played games and got a deeper understanding of the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) program.

Fall Festival Vendor Opportunity – Register Today!

The Berlin School Fall Festival will be Saturday, October 11, from 10 am to 2 pm. This family friendly, free event will feature fun games, food, a variety of vendors and crafters, health exhibits, entertainment for all ages, and more!
