Berlin School Board Seeks Building Condition Survey For Guidance

The Berlin Central School Board of Education held a round table discussion about the District’s facilities.on Thursday, June 4.

Superintendent of Buildings Cyril Grant said a survey of the District’s buildings that is required every five years is due by November 15 of this year (the last one was done in 2010), so it should be set in motion very soon. Beryl H. Moul Memorial Grange Scholarship Opportunities

The Beryl H. Moul Memorial Grange Scholarship was established in 1958 by West Sand Lake Grange #949 in memory of prominent Grange Member Beryl H. Moul.  Applicants must be Rensselaer County residents (for at least four years) and must be accepted in an accredited two or four year college program pursuing a career in agriculture, home economics, nursing, natural resource management, environmental engineering or pharmacology.  The application deadline which includes an official High School transcript is June 10, 2015.

Rensselaer County Farm Bureau is proud to sponsor scholarships for candidate (s) interested in pursuing a career in agriculture.  Applications must be postmarked on or before July 1, 2015.  Please send to Rensselaer County Farm Bureau

Berlin District Budget Approved; Kaschak Elected

Residents of the Berlin Central School District approved the 2015-2016 proposed school budget of $19,099,991 Tuesday by a large majority. Total votes for the budget with a tax levy increase 0.90%, were 317 Yes and 123 No.

Berlin Track Team Has High Hopes For Post Season

The Berlin varsity track and field team is winding up its season as the weather warms up and sectionals and States loom near.

The combined boys and girls teams have fared well in the WASAREN league, setting two new school records and racing in five invitationals this season.

Berlin Students Compete In The Olympics Of The Visual Arts

For the first time ever, Berlin Middle School joined 37 districts in the Olympics of the Visual Arts (OVA) competition held in Saratoga Springs on April 30. Berlin placed fourth in Illustration and seventh in painting.

Berlin High School Team Wins Regional Envirothon Competition

On May 7, one high school and one middle school team from Berlin CSD competed in the 2015 Capital Regional Envirothon competition at New York State Power Authority’s Visitor Center in Gilboa, NY. The Berlin High School team won the competition for Rensselaer County and will advance to the state competition to be held May 27 and 28 at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.

Lockdown At Berlin School

On Wednesday May 6, according to a police report, a teacher at the Berlin Middle School/High School noticed that an eighth grade student was holding “what appeared to be rifle,” but was not pointing it at anyone.
