Who knew that Art Schmich was such a comedian? Selected as Commencement Speaker for Berlin’s graduation ceremonies, Berlin Central School’s Athletic Director for 26 years showed up with props. One was a brand new cell phone with which he proceeded to text his wife Donna to assure her he was safe and sound. – “She worries about me,” – Schmich said. Hello…it’s me. A few months ago I was told I needed to write a speech, so here I am. I can try to say something memorable, but I’m not going to make any promises. By now most of you have met my parents, they’re pretty funny people, so hopefully I can make you laugh a little while I’m up here. I might cry. Rensselaer County Legislature Urges More State Funding For District Attorney And Public Defender’s Office

As part of the recently enacted NYS budget, the state legislature approved a 1.6-million-dollar increase in the salaries of district attorneys statewide. This was the direct result of the Commission on Legislative, Judicial and Executive compensation granting increases to all state judges. Judicial law links these salaries to that of a County District Attorney. In Rensselaer County this increases the salary of DA Joel Abelove by $30,850 to an annual stipend of $183,350.
