Sand Lake Bicentennial Dinner Celebration
A dinner to celebrate the Town of Sand Lake’s upcoming 2012 Bicentennial will be held at The Church of the Covenant in Averill Park on September 18 at 5:45 pm. The dinner menu and theme have an historic emphasis. The program will be a PowerPoint® presentation of the Troy & New England Railway booklet completed by Charles Viens and Sanford Young. On display will be a scale model of Trolley No. 6 being constructed by Ross Sterantino.

• Old Daley Chicken BBQ is on Friday, September 10, to benefit the Library. The BBQ will be held at the Wal-Mart Plaza on Route 7 from 4 to 7 pm. Dinner is $10 and includes potato, coleslaw and dessert. Buy your tickets at the Library now!

Brunswick Elks Auxiliary Chicken Parm
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks #2556 will hold a Chicken Parm Dinner on Friday, September 17. The Lodge is located at 665 Brunswick Road in Eagle Mills.
Dinner costs $10 for adults, and $5 for children under 12. You may eat-in or take-out. For more information or reservations, call 283-3598.
Profits from this dinner will help benefit needy families at Christmas.
Fish Available For Pond Stocking
The Rensselaer County Soil & Water Conservation District’s Annual Fish Stocking Program is currently taking orders for rainbow and brook trout as well as largemouth bass, channel catfish, fathead minnows and crayfish. Orders will be taken up to September 24 with the distribution to be held on October 1 at 1 pm in the parking lot of the Agriculture & Life Sciences Building in Troy.

Honor Guard Welcomes Home WW II Veteran’s Remains
Members of the New York Army National Guard Military Forces Honor Guard helped welcome home the remains of Army Air Corps 1st Lt. Ray Fletcher at Albany International Airport on Wednesday, August 18, for his final transportation home to Vermont. The remains will be escorted by Army Capt. Hugo Flores-Diaz.
On May 10, 1944, a B-25C Mitchell Bomber piloted by 1st Lieutenant Ray F. Fletcher of the 57th Bombardment Wing disappeared on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Theater during a routine courier flight. Local Corsicans reported a crash site to French police (Gendarmerie) just three days later.

Connor McCart and his family appeared in the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature during the presentation period of the Legislature’s session on Tuesday, August 10. McCart had been honored in a resolution passed last month recognizing his achievement of being chosen to compete in Yankee Stadium on June 19 in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition and for capturing second place in his age group.

New York Army National Guard Aviators Train On Firehawk System
A New York Army National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crew successfully tested the state’s Firehawk fire fighting system on Wednesday, August 4, in the Mohawk River near the Colonie Town Park.
The Firehawk system consists of a 1,000 gallon tank and spray apparatus that fits beneath a Blackhawk helicopter and can be filled with a pump system and hose from a river or lake in 60 seconds. It is able to drop all or just part of its water payload. It can also be filled with other types of fire retardant material such as foam. The landing gear of the Blackhawk must be modified to accommodate the system.
