Pittstown Historical Society Receives Grant For National Register Farmstead Documentation

On Monday afternoon, November 8, Erin Tobin, the Preservation League Regional Director of Technical and Grant Programs in western New York presented the Pittstown Historical Society with a Grant for $7,500. This grant will support the preparation of a National Register Multiple Resource Documentation Form for historic Pittstown farmsteads and may get recognized buildings on the National Historic Register. A majority of the documented farmstead owners attended the meeting in the Historic Barns of Nipmoose in Buskirk.

Good Bye Mister Chick

A resolution commending Ron Cicchinelli upon his retirement from Troy High School was passed in October by the Rensselaer County Legislature, and the presentation was made before the regular meeting on Tuesday, November 9.
Ron Cicchinelli is retiring from Troy High School as an American History teacher. He was originally from Waterford and attended Siena College as well as Russell Sage College. Cicchinelli, known to most of his students as Mr. Chick, began his teaching and coaching career nearly four decades ago and retired with many fond memories throughout his career from Keveny, Catholic Central High School, Rensselaer, Hoosick Falls Central School, Bishop Gibbons and most recently Troy High School.

County Approves Takeover Of Village Dispatch

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 9, the County Legislature passed unanimously a resolution authorizing the County Executive to execute a public safety dispatching agreement with the Village of Hoosick Falls. At a September 20 meeting the Village of Hoosick Falls decided, in a 4-3 vote after much discussion and a series of public hearings, to join the County Dispatch system and to deactivate its own dispatch system. At present the emergency service calls, for fire and ambulance, go through the County 911 Dispatch and are forwarded to the Hoosick Falls center to be dispatched locally while the Police calls are handled solely by the Hoosick Falls Dispatch.

Taconic Valley Historical Society Presents Old Maps
Warren Broderick will present a program on old maps of Rensselaer County at the November 15 meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society. The meeting will be held at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Berlin at 7:30 pm. The program is free and open to the public.
Eastern Rensselaer Co. Election Results By Town

The only contested local election in the Eastwick area was that for a position left vacant on the Stephentown Town Council after Larry Eckhardt was elected last year as Town Supervisor. Bill Jennings (D, WF) defeated John Meekins (R,C) for that seat with 57% of the vote. Also in Stephentown, Wes Edwards running unopposed was elected to another term as Town Justice. Edwards has already served 47 years in that position.

Joshua Julien Promoted
Joshua M. Julien has been promoted to the rank of private two in the U.S. Army. Julien, a cannon crew member, is assigned to the 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery Company, Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma. He has served in the military for less than one year.
Julien is the son of Shawn R. Julien of Orchard Lane, West Sand Lake, NY, and Shirley A. Pasquareillo of Cottage St., Averill Park, NY.
The private is a 2007 graduate of Averill Park High School.
Brunswick Elks Holiday Craft Fair
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks will be holding their Annual Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, November 13, from 9 am to 3 pm. Over 30 vendors will have displays. The Lodge is located on Rt. 2 in Brunswick. The Fair is open to the public, and admission is free. The kitchen will be open and Santa will be available for pictures.

American Red Cross Goal Reached
The Town of Hoosick Republican Club sponsored its yearly blood drive on Columbus Day, October 11, at the North Hoosick Fire Department. The American Red Cross provides a goal for the event, and once again that goal was met, thanks to the many residents who gave blood and the team effort of the Republican party.
