The Rensselaer County Department of Health will be hosting a free flu inoculation clinic for County residents on Saturday, February 12, from 10 am to noon at Mink’s Firehouse located at 595 Broadway in the City of Rensselaer.
All residents age 18 and over are urged to be vaccinated against the flu and especially residents 65 and older or individuals 18 to 64 years old who are either a smoker or suffer from long term health problems.
Registration for the clinic is not required. For more information about the upcoming clinic, please contact the Rensselaer County Department of Health at 270-2655.

Brunswick Elks Mardi Gras Bash
The Brunswick Elks #2556, 665 Brunswick Road, Troy, will host a Mardi Gras Bash on Saturday, February 19, from 7 to 11 pm. The tickets cost $25 which includes entry, good music from Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers, great food, beer, wine and soda.
Profits from this event will aide the Pittstown United Methodist Food Pantry. Beads will be given to all guests bringing a nonperishable food item for the pantry.

4 H Roast Beef Dinner Fund Raiser
The Rensselaer County 4-H Teen Exchange will be holding a roast beef dinner fund raiser at the Pittstown United Methodist Church Hall, 45 Old Route 7, Pittstown, on Saturday, February 12, serving from 4 to 6 pm. Reservations cost $9 for adults (12 years and older), $5 for children (5 to 11 years) and free for children 4 years and under. Dinners purchased at the door will cost $10 for adults and $6 for children.

Brunswick Elks Lodge Wine Dinner
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks Lodge invites the public to a Wine Pairing Dinner on Saturday, February 12, at 6:30 pm.
Enjoy a 4 course dinner each paired with a different wine. You may choose a steak or fish entree for $30 per person. Beer or soda will be available for non-wine drinkers.

Our mission is non-profit and the proceeds from this dinner will help support the Rensselaer County Hospice.
Patricia Lamb Receives The Rosekrans 4-H Memorial Award
Patricia Lamb, son of Chris and Terry Lamb of Buskirk, was selected as the Helen Rosekrans 4-H Memorial Award recipient. Patricia is a 4-H member of the Country Bumpkins 4-H Club, was the 2009-10 Rensselaer County Dairy Princess, is a graduate of the Cornell Junior Dairy Lead Program and has competed at the District and State Level for 4-H Dairy Bowl. The Johnsonville Rescue Squad Breakfast
The Johnsonville Rescue Squad located at 4 River Road in Johnsonville will be having its monthly breakfast on Sunday, February 6. The menu consists of pancakes, French toast, eggs, hash browns, omelets, sausage, toast, fruit, juice and coffee. Hours are 7:30 to 11:30 am. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 5-12. Two Locals Honored By The Rensselaer County Legislature

One citizen, in the prime of life, was recognized for his service to the community and his potential for the future. TVCG Meeting
The January meeting of the Taconic Valley Community Group (TVCG), is scheduled for Thursday, January 13, at 12:30 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, Route 20, New Lebanon. The program will feature Jim Shake of the American Red Cross discussing the blood drive that TVCG will host on Thursday, February 10, at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Brainard Church Burns

Fire of undetermined origin pretty much destroyed the old United Methodist Church in Brainard early Wednesday morning. Mary Morris, who lives across Route 20 from the Church, said she heard her dog barking sometime around midnight and wondered why. Later she heard more commotion outside and when she went out to see what was going on she was horrified to see flames shooting out the side windows of the Church.
