Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-20) announced today that he will join with New York State Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin to hold a Town Hall meeting in Brunswick on March 7.
The meeting will begin at 7 pm in the Brunswick Community Center, on Keyes Lane. Congressman Gibson and Assemblyman McLaughlin will make brief remarks and then take questions on federal and state issues.

West Sand Lake Resident To Be New York Army Guard’s Senior Enlisted Soldier
Command Sgt. Major Frank Wicks Will Advise Adjutant General On All Matters Concerning Soldiers
New York Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major Frank Wicks, a West Sand Lake resident, has been picked as the next New York National Guard State Command Sergeant Major by Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York.
Wicks, a combat veteran, will replace Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Van Pelt, who retires in May 2011 after more than ten years in the position.

Noble Myers and Roxanna Cummings gave birth to their third of five children on April 12, 1827, in Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont, whom they named Charles Henry Myers. On January 5, 1850, Reverend Elder Tinkham, a Baptist minister, married Charles to Mary Ann Varnum, daughter of Rensselaer Varnum and Eliza A. LeBarron, in the minister’s home in North White Creek, Washington County, New York. This marriage was a surprise to Mary Ann’s parents, as the couple never told them that they were getting married until shortly afterwards on that day. Amphibian Monitoring At Grafton Lakes State Park
Are you interested in helping protect frogs and toads? The North American Amphibian Monitoring Program (NAAMP), an effort coordinated by the U.S. Geological Survey and a network of regional coordinators, will lead a training session for volunteers to collect data on frogs and toads during the spring and summer. This free training will be held on Wednesday, March 2, from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Shaver Pond Nature Center at 194 Shaver Pond Road in Grafton Lakes State Park.

Fund Raiser For Correctional Officer Ron Jacques And Family
Two weeks ago, Correctional Officer Ron Jacques and his family suffered a devastating fire at their home in Hoosick Falls. They lost their home and nearly all of their possessions including several beloved family pets.
Sheriff Mahar, his deputies, staff and Ron’s fellow correctional officers will be holding a fund raiser to assist Ron and his family during this very difficult time on Sunday, February 20, from 1 to 5 pm at the Italian Community Center, 1450 5th Ave., Troy. A donation of $25 per individual or $40 per couple is requested.

Woodside Cemetery Meeting
The Woodside Cemetery Association will hold its annual lot owners and families business meeting on March 1 at 7 pm at the Union Gospel Church Hall on Plank Road, Rt. 40, in East Poestenkill. All interested parties are welcome to attend. We will discuss general business and plans for spring projects. The election of officers will be held. The floor will be open to anyone who would like to comment.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Community Spirit Recalled

The family of John “Jack” Dwyer came to the Rensselaer County Legislative Chamber on Tuesday evening to receive copies of the resolution that was passed in his memory at last month’s meeting. Former Hoosick Falls Mayor Don Bogardus accompanied Jack’s son Phillip and his wife Vicki into the well of the Legislature where District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote made the presentation.

Freeing Charles At The Poestenkill Historical Society
The Poestenkill Historical Society will be celebrating Black History Month with a special presentation on Tuesday, February 22, at the Poestenkill Town Hall on Rt. 351 at 7 pm.
