Bennington Battlefield Historic Site Hosting “A Blast At Bennington”
The Bennington Battlefield Historic Site will be hosting a summer program, “A Blast at Bennington,” on Sunday July 1, at 2 pm. This program will include a brief look into what it was like to be a child during the Revolutionary War. Participants can also try a few colonial games and a craft. Come dressed for the weather and discover what life was like way back when.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Polish Hall Recognized On 100th Anniversary

At its meeting on Tuesday evening the Rensselaer County Legislature passed a resolution commending the Society of St. Stanislaw, “The Polish Hall,” in Hoosick Falls upon celebrating its one hundredth anniversary. The resolution says, “Consistent with the duty of this Legislative body to recognize the contributions and achievements of organizations of service to Rensselaer County, we praise with respect and admiration the Society of St. Stanislaw as it reaches an important milestone.”

Garfield Road Bridge Under Construction; Lengthy Detours Ensue

A crew from Bette & Cring Construction Group of Latham started work on Monday on replacing the Garfield Road bridge that crosses Black Brook in the southwestern corner of Stephentown. The bridge is located at the intersection with the lower end of Gentile Road. Access to East Nassau from Stephentown will entail lengthy detours for about three months.

Timber Harvesting And Chestnut Restoration Tour
The public is invited to attend a special two part forestry event on Saturday, June 16, starting at 10 am at 231 Brainard Road, Averill Park to see how locally grown timber is sustainably harvested on the Rensselaer Plateau. This logging operation is managed by LandVest for the Forestland Group (former Cowee property). The harvest is being done by a local contractor and is intended to increase growth on residual crop trees while also starting a new forest of oak, pine and hemlock. Suspect In Area Burglaries Is Arrested

After a month long burglary investigation, Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Keith E. Gates, 25, of Church Street, Hoosick Falls. Gates is charged with Burglary Second Degree and Grand Larceny Fourth Degree, both are felonies. The arrest is in connection with a residential burglary that occurred on Tory Hill Road in Pittstown in April. Reportedly, jewelry valued at $1,800 was taken. It has not been recovered to date.
