A Must-See Exhibit: “Catastrophe Hats and Other Recent Works”  by Artist Maggi Randall

Southern Vermont College (SVC) is pleased to exhibit “Catastrophe Hats and Other Recent Works” by Southern Vermont artist Maggi Randall. The exhibit is available for viewing June 4 through July 8 in Everett Mansion’s Burgdorff Gallery. The public and friends of the artist are encouraged to attend Randall’s opening reception on Saturday, June 4, from 3 to 5 pm. in the Gallery. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and on weekends by arrangement with the Campus Safety Office. Former WCW Building In Hoosick Falls Purchased

At its May 10 meeting, The Rensselaer County legislature unanimously approved the sale of the former WCW building at 1 Mechanic Street to the 1150 Scottsville Rd LLC for $140,000.  They plan to move Trojan Steel from its current location at 62 Factory Hill in North Hoosick.  Raymond J. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) President Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D., has announced that the Institute has received a significant gift from The Lemelson Foundation to establish the Burt Swersey Inventor’s Studio, reinforcing the next generation of inventors and entrepreneurs. Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has released the results of the 2016 Prescription Drug Take Back Day event within Rensselaer County. More Than 100 Firefighters Respond 

To A Blaze In The Grafton Woods

It took more than 100 firefighters from 14 different Rensselaer County departments nearly six hours to extinguish a woods and brush fire burning on state land off Edelmann Lane, mostly in the Town of Grafton near the Pittstown line.  Grafton Chief Jim Goyer said there were no injuries in the Wednesday blaze, which was difficult to fight because of the terrain and lack of water.  Overall, Goyer estimates the amount of land consumed by the fire to be about 14 acres.
