New Lebanon Grievance Information

Kimberly Cammer, Assessor for the Town of New Lebanon, has announced that  the Tentative Assessment Roll for the Town of New Lebanon is completed and a copy may be seen at the Town Clerk’s Office, 14755 Route 22 North, New Lebanon, during normal business hours.
An assessor will be in attendance with the Tentative Assessment Roll on Monday, May 6, between  9 am and 1 pm, Saturday, May 11, between  9 am and 1 pm, Monday, May 13, between 10 am and 2 pm and Thursday, May 16, between  4 and 8 pm.
The Board of Assessment Review for the Town of New Lebanon will meet to hear and examine all properly filed complaints in relation to assessments at the New Lebanon Town Hall meeting room from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 29. A publication containing procedures for contesting an assessment is available at the Assessor’s Office or the Columbia County Real Property Tax Office as well as online at   http://www.tax.ny.gov/pubs_and_bulls/orpts/publications/handouts.htm.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Plushness Is All

New Lebanon has just become a bit more comfortable. The new Town Hall was completed a few months back, but residents at Tuesday’s monthly Town Board meeting noticed that two and a half hours of listening to their elected officials officiate had suddenly become a bit less arduous. The old hard folding chairs were gone, and new soft ones were neatly lined up replacing them.
“Was everyone comfortable tonight?” asked Councilman Bruce Baldwin.
Indeed, many of the few residents who attended the meeting were rather impressed with the new cushy comfort of New Lebanon.

Cellist Paul de Jong At The New Lebanon Library

Internationally renowned cellist Paul de Jong will perform at the New Lebanon Library on April 19 from 7 to 8:30 pm. The program, which is free and open to the public, will consist of original works for cello accompanied by a collage of found video and original poetry.
Born into a musical family in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, de Jong received his first cello lesson on his sixth birthday. In 2000, he co-founded his band, the Books, and gained wide international acclaim with four albums and multi-media oriented live shows. After more than six years of intensive worldwide touring de Jong is now concentrating on a more local professional lifestyle revolving around his young family rooted in New Lebanon.
The New Lebanon Library is located at 550 State Route 20, New Lebanon, just north of the yellow blinking light. For further information, contact the Library at 518-794-8844.

Tsatsawassa Fire Company Breakfast

Members of the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company, serving Brainard and East Nassau and surrounding area, will hold their monthly breakfast on Sunday, April 21, from 8 to 11:30 at the firehouse located on Firehouse Lane behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66N in Brainard.
Breakfast offers your choice of pancakes or French toast served with bacon or sausage, eggs cooked to your order, applesauce and an assortment of breakfast beverages at a cost of $6, over the age of 12, children 5 to 12 are served for $3, and those under five are served free. Special thanks is expressed to the Hannaford Corporation for their generous donation toward our breakfast menu and to the Cub Scouts who help in the serving.

The Lebanon Valley Historical Society’s Tilden Project

In 1824, in New Lebanon, Elam Tilden established Tilden and Company, which became the first pharmaceutical company in the United States. Tilden grew the herbs and then used them to develop and manufacture herbal medicines which were sold locally and nationwide. The company became an important part of the economic, social and environmental life of the community. It closed in 1963 after being absorbed into a series of larger companies.

Shakers As Pacifists

Each month, the Shaking Up Sundays: Reading Group sponsored by the Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon takes an in depth look to see what made the Shakers so ahead of their time. A lively conversation on the Shakers as pacifists, based on a variety of unusual readings, will be held at the Darrow School Library on Sunday,  April 14, at 2 pm. On May 12 the topic will be celibacy.

April Events At The New Lebanon Library

The New Lebanon Library announces the following April events. All of these events are free and will take place at the library which is located at 550 State Route 20.
• April 10, 17, 24 (event is on Wednesdays) – Tales for Tots Story Hour – 10:30 am. Story hour includes crafts, songs and movement activities.
• April 10, 17, 24 (event is on Wednesdays) – Hug-A-Bye Babies – noon. This event includes age appropriate stories, songs and movement activities for our youngest patrons and their caregivers.
• April 5 – Linda Worster in Concert – 6 pm. This is an evening of exceptional acoustic music that explores the joy of inner discovery.
• April 7 – New Lebanon Book Group – 11 am. The book to be discussed is Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda. Newcomers are welcome.
• April 12 – Family Movie Night – 6:30 pm. This showing of a current film is suitable for the whole family. Call for title. Popcorn and juice will be provided.
• April 18 – Family Craft Night – 6:30 pm. This activity is for ages 5 and up although younger siblings are welcome. All materials will be provided.
• April 19 – Paul De Jong in Concert – 7 pm. The acclaimed cellist of “The Books” will perform a program of original music for cello accompanied by found video collage and poetry.
• April 25 – Community Film Night – 6:30 pm. A current documentary film will be shown with a discussion to follow. Call for title.
• April 26 – David Grover and Linda Worster Together in Concert – 7 pm. Enjoy an evening of acoustic music with these Berkshire favorites.
• April 27 – Paws-to-Read – 9 am. Therapy dogs come to the Library, and children read to their furry friends. And, of course, the dogs listen! Please call 518-794-8844 to register.

Linda Worster Performs At The New Lebanon Library

Berkshire musician Linda Worster will perform at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, April 5, from 6 to 8 pm. The public is welcome, and the event is free, although donations for the performer are welcome.
Singer/songwriter Worster has toured as a solo musician throughout New England, New York and New Jersey, performing in many coffeehouses, colleges, churches, healing centers, cafés and clubs. She has opened for many well known artists including Livingston Taylor, Harry Chapin, Paul Stookey, Leo Kotke, David Bromberg, Bill Staines, Dave Mallett, Jonathan Edwards, Joan Baez, Richie Havens and Taj Mahal. Her blend of folk covers and uplifting original music proclaim the joy of living and explore the struggle of inner discovery.
