Parishioners of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon celebrated the installation of their new pipe organ last year with a concert dubbed “Sounds of Spring.” With spring busting out again in New Lebanon, what better way to welcome it than with a second annual “Sounds of Spring” concert. On May 5 the Church was also participating in a global event. It being the 850th anniversary of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, there were 850 organ concerts around the world celebrating the occasion.

The Sidewalks Of New Lebanon

On March 12 the Town of New Lebanon held a public hearing on a proposed plan to add sidewalks from roughly Lovers Lane, running along the north side of routes 20 and 22, to about the High School. There was mention of taking property through eminent domain, and many residents were worried taxes would go up, so it was little surprise that the new Town Hall was packed that night.

May Events At The New Lebanon Library
The New Lebanon Library announces the following May events. All of these events are free and will take place at the library which is located at 550 State Route 20.
• May 8, 19, 22, 29 (event is on Wednesdays) – Tales for Tots Story Hour – 10:30 am. Story hour includes crafts, songs and movement activities.
• May 8, 19, 22, 29 (event is on Wednesdays) – Hug-A-Bye Babies – noon. This is age appropriate stories, songs and movement activities for our youngest patrons and their caregivers.
• May 5 – New Lebanon Book Group – 11 am. The book to be discussed is The Round House by Louise Erdrich. Newcomers welcome.
• May 10 – David Grover in Concert – 7 pm. Enjoy an evening of song with the incomparable David Grover.
• May 11 – Paws-to-Read – 9 am. Therapy dogs come to the Library, and children read to their furry friends. And, of course, the dogs listen! Please call 518-794-8844 to register.
• May 16 – Family Craft Night – 6:30 pm. This is for ages 5 and up, although younger siblings are welcome. All materials will be provided.
• May 17 – Coffeehouse Night with Linda Worster – 6 pm. Enjoy acoustic music with this Berkshire favorite. Light refreshments will be served.
• May 24 – The Limbshakers – 6:30 pm. Enjoy an evening of jazz standards.
• May 28 – Katherine Liccardo and Joseph Gotoff: Works for Violin and Cello – 7 pm. Enjoy an evening of chamber music by this talented duo.
• May 30 – Rick Leab in concert – 6:30 pm. Enjoy guitar, mandocello and rhumba box music.
• May 31 – Family Movie Night – 6:30 pm. A current film suitable for the whole family will be shown. Call for the title. Popcorn and juice will be provided.

New Lebanon – Carl “Freddie” Winterstein died suddenly but peacefully at the age of 82 on January 15, 2013, after more than 25 years of happy retirement in the home his parents built more than 50 years ago.

Volunteers Clear Around The Great Stone Barn

Andrew Zema Landscaping Inc. of Stephentown recently volunteered two days of work at Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon to clear the close to 7 acre field around the Great Stone Barn. Museum Directors expressed appreciation for Zema’s work that, “Adds to many hours spent by Trustee volunteers clearing in the area this spring. With the area now cleared, the view from the Barn into the North Pastures is expanded, and planning for future maintenance can begin.”

Mountain Road School Open House
Parents and children in grades pre-k through eighth are invited to Mountain Road School on Tuesday, April 30, from 9:30 to 11:30 am for its monthly “Tea and Tour Tuesday.” Prospective families can enjoy a cup of tea, learn about the school, tour the classrooms and campus and meet with teachers and current parents.
The Open House is also an opportunity to view Mountain Road School’s new home in the lovingly-restored 1788 Hand House, situated on 20 acres of fields, woods and streams.

Malden Bridge Comedy Show
Join with family and friends for an evening of enjoyment at the Malden Bridge Community Center by attending the Not Too Far From Home Comedy Tour on Saturday, May 11, at 8 pm. The evening will feature a ninety minute show in a cabaret setting with three professional stand-up comedians, Aaron David Ward, Deric Harrington and Frank Gentile.
