Irish music trio Dublin Porter will perform at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, November 15, at 6:30 pm. The repertoire of this Berkshire band focuses on the dance music and airs of Ireland.

Mike Benson has retained his position of New Lebanon Town Supervisor after defeating Town Councilman Matt Larabee with 56% of the vote. Benson was running on the Republican, Conservative and Independence tickets, while Larabee was running as a Democrat.

The Lebanon Valley Farmers Market will hold its annual holiday markets on Sunday, November 17, from 10 am to 2 pm and December 8 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Midtown Mall, Routes 20 and 22 in the center of New Lebanon.
Sample and take home a fine selection of local vegetables, meats, baked goods, flowers, handcrafted furniture and gifts and more – made and grown locally.
There will be family entertainment with an assortment of local musicians – The Mountain Road Singers and, on December 8, a surprise visit from both Santa and New Lebanon’s biggest celebrity – Kobe the Alligator!

The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company will serve its monthly breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, November 17, from 8 to 11:30 am. Breakfast consists of your choice of French toast or pancakes together with bacon or sausage, toast, orange juice, beverages and eggs prepared to your order for a cost of $6 with children under five served free.
The firehouse is located behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66 North in the hamlet of Brainard and is handicap accessible. For more information call 518-766-3815.
New Lebanon – Rev. Joseph L. Halloran, 87, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the Teresian House in Albany, NY. Born in Cohoes, NY, on May 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Elizabeth L. Geiger Halloran. He moved to Troy, NY, at the age of four and was a 1944 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. He attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT, and did his philosophical and theological studies at Our Lady of Angels Seminary at Niagara University. He was ordained a priest on his 26th birthday, May 30, 1952, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany by Bishop Edmund Gibbons.

Hancock – Leon A. Morse, Sr., 81, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Hillcrest Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield, MA.
Born in Bennington, VT, Leon was the son of the late Wayne and Ethel Montgomery Morse. He was raised in Bennington where he received his education. He later served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from the time of his enlistment in 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1961. Leon owned and operated Leon’s Shell Service in both North Lebanon, NY, and Stephentown, NY, and Hancock Auto Repair in Hancock, MA. He retired in 1992, as a truck driver, from Henry V. Rabouin, Inc. Trucking Company in Hancock.
Leon enjoyed the times spent with family and friends, restoring antique cars and fishing. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and avid wood worker.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara L. Cure Morse, to whom he was married on June 16, 1960, in Rutland, VT. He was the loving father of Kelly L. Morse and wife Maggie Brown Morse of Hancock, Tracy Jo and husband Martin Rogers of Pittsfield, Whitney L. Morse-Koffi and Emile Koffi of Pittsfield, Leon A. Morse, Jr. and wife Julie of Berlin, NY, Wade Morse and wife Niki of Hancock and Joanne George of Bennington. He was the brother of Eleanor Harvey of Shaftsbury, VT, and the late Doris Babson, Marjorie Bond, Kennen, Wayne, Ted and Marie Morse. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Leon was held on Tuesday, November 5, at 11 am in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY Route 43, Stephentown. Interment followed, with military honors, in Hancock Cemetery. Friends were invited and visited with Leon’s family on Monday, November 4, from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. For those wishing to remember Leon in a special way, his family asks that donations be made to the Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home, 169 Valentine Road, Pittsfield, MA, 01201, in his memory.

The Town of New Lebanon will be hosting a workshop for the public to come and discuss future revitalization strategies for the New Lebanon hamlet. Discussions are expected to include design and visual character, infrastructure, economic development and tourism enhancement opportunities.
A public workshop will be held at the Walter B. Howard Elementary School, 1478 Route 20, New Lebanon, in the school library on Wednesday, November 13, from 6:30 to 9 pm. This workshop will describe the planning efforts underway and will include break-out groups where participants can make recommendations toward their vision for the future of the New Lebanon hamlet center.
This workshop is a preliminary step in an ongoing planning process to develop a New Lebanon Hamlet Revitalization Strategy. Members of the Town’s consulting planning team of Behan Planning and Design will be on hand at the workshop to help guide the discussion. All local residents and the business community are encouraged to attend and provide input!

New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School’s Appetites Anonymous/Food Club will be sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off on Veteran’s Day, November 11, in honor of our veterans. The event will be held in the school’s cafeteria from 1 to 2:30 pm. Anyone who would like to bring a crock pot of chili is welcome. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 and, for those entering chili in the cook-off, $2. Veterans participate for free – whether they bring chili or not.
Attendees can sample all chili entries and vote for their favorite. The winner will be announced at the end of the event. The Food Club will provide corn muffins and beverages. Proceeds from this event go toward supplies needed for a community Thanksgiving Dinner the Club will sponsor November 23.
The Appetites Anonymous/Food Club focuses on helping students who are interested in learning more advanced cooking techniques and exploring careers in this industry.
