Robert W. Jones

West Lebanon – Robert W. Jones, 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at his home with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Alice L. Cole Jones.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 8, 1922, Bob was the son of the late Herbert F. and Madeline Goeler Jones. He was a graduate of Haaren High School in New York City, Oswego State College with a Bachelor’s Degree and Albany State College with a Master’s Degree. He was employed from 1948 to 1978 as an Industrial Arts teacher at the Berkshire Farm Union Free School in Canaan, NY, and later at Bethlehem High School in Delmar, NY. He was also employed at Ceramaseal in New Lebanon, NY. At one time, Bob was responsible for patiently teaching most of the women in the Lebanon Valley how to drive a car.

Bob served his country as a First Lieutenant during World War II as a bomber pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Church of Our Savior in Lebanon Springs, NY, the Lenox Club and the Old Chatham Hunt Club. Bob enjoyed playing golf, reading the newspaper, entertaining, traveling and doing crossword puzzles. He will be truly missed.

In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by his children, Eunice J. and husband John Young of Timonium, MD, Barbara A. Graham of San Jose, CA, Donna J. and husband Michael Gillen of Magnolia, MA, Karen E. and husband Thomas Coleman of Falcon, CO, Herbert F. and wife Darlene Jones of Brainard, NY, and Patricia E. and husband Jeffrey Gardner of Feura Bush, NY, 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his first wife, Eunice M. Smith Jones, his son, Robert W. Jones, Jr., and his siblings, Jean Jones and Edward F. Jones.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 8, at 12 noon at the Church of Our Savior, 14660 Route 22, Lebanon Springs, with Rev. Canon Clinton Dugger officiating. A calling hour preceded the service from 11 am to 12 noon and a reception followed the service, both occurring in the Fellowship Hall adjoining the Church. Burial of cremains will be in a family plot in Lawrence Brook Cemetery in South Royalston, MA, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene, the Berkshire Humane Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Robert W. Jones.

Gas Pipeline Meeting In New Lebanon

Divinitress To Perform At The New Lebanon Library

Local acoustic folk duo Divinitress will be performing at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, November 14, from 7 to 9 pm. Their blend of harmonies and acoustic instruments give the duo a unique and uplifting sound. This event is free and open to the public, although donations for the performers are welcome.

Divinitress consists of singer-guitarist Tistrya Grace, who has spent ten years performing at coffee houses and festivals, and versatile Berkshire singer-songwriter Erin Laundry. They play a combination of original songs along with popular covers that encourage the audience to sing along.

For further information on this event, please call the Library at 518-794-8844. The Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.

Blue Horse At Sand Lake

The Sand Lake Center for the Arts is hosting the Blue Horse Repertory Co. with director Lora Lee Ecobelli on Friday, November 7, at 8 pm. They will be performing scenes from the works of great playwrights – Tennessee Williams, Christopher Durang, William Shakespeare and more. The performance is free and open to the public. LVHS Presents Native American Healing Traditions

Lebanon Valley Historical Society’s October program will take place Monday, October 27, when native educator and healer Lisa Little Wolf will present an illustrated talk on Native American healing traditions and the contributions of Mohican medicinal knowledge to the Shakers and others who settled in Mohican territory in the late 18th century.  The program will begin at 7 pm at the New Lebanon Town Hall.  As usual admission is free, and an assortment of tempting refreshments will be provided.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Pigs Stolen

A disturbing report of animal abuse and theft was made public at the monthly Town Board meeting in New Lebanon Tuesday night.

According to resident Vivian Steinberg, a pig being raised on her property by local farmers on West Hill Road was found missing the morning of October 3. The area was marked with blood and, as neighbors reported hearing gun shots the night before, it is believed the pig was killed and taken away. A second pig was found with a knife wound to the neck.
