County Health Department Warns Of Tick Borne Disease: Reported Cases of Anaplasmosis Have Sharply Increased In Rensselaer County

The Rensselaer County Health Department is urging residents to take precautions to prevent exposure to tick borne diseases including Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Babesiosis.

The warning stems from a significant increase in the number of cases of Anaplasmosis found in Rensselaer County in 2015 particularly in the Hoosick Falls/Petersburgh region. Jimino: County Kicks Off Summer Food Program

Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino recently announced the start of the County’s Summer Food Program, which is a collaborative effort by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the New York State Education Department, and Rensselaer County that provides the opportunity for children under the age of eighteen to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Rensselaer County has sponsored the program since 1974.

“A well balanced diet is crucial to the health of every child and this program ensures that the youth of our community who depend on their schools for their nutrition have access to well balanced meals throughout the summer,” stated Jimino. Friends Of Dyken Pond Seek Grant Application Support

A resolution of support for a grant application sought by the Friends of Dyken Pond was again on the Grafton Town Board’s agenda this month. Last month the matter was referred to the Planning Board for an advisory opinion after some residents spoke against it. The Planning Board recommended that the Town Board support the grant application.
