Farmland Protection Grant Workshops Offered To Local Farmers

The Owner Of The 16 Dogs Recently Seized In Grafton Tells His Side Of The Story

Three weeks ago, New York State Police seized 16 dogs, including four puppies, from the Jay Hakes Road home of 83-year-old Ed Maxfield in Grafton.  Troopers indicated they acted out of concern for the dogs, as night time temperatures then were 20 degrees below or better.  The animals had been chained outside, and although well fed, lacked water because of the freezing temperatures. Learning How To Make Maple Syrup At Grafton Lakes State Park

The ins and outs of maple sugaring filled the classroom at the Park Office Saturday, as Park Naturalist Liz Wagner took children and adults through all the steps of making your own maple syrup at home.  The afternoon started with a short classroom presentation, then outside to learn to identify a sugar maple tree by its bark, branches and leaves.  Once found, picking the best spots and side of the tree, usually the south side because that is the sunniest.  [Read more…] about Learning How To Make Maple Syrup At Grafton Lakes State Park

Grafton Planning Board Hears Plans For New Business And Approves Subdivision For Former Elementary School

Hearing no opposition but in receipt of a letter of concern, the Town of Grafton Planning Board voted unanimously to approve both the Environmental Impact Study and the actual subdivision of property at the one-time elementary school at the corner of State Route 2 and Babcock Lake Road.  The plan had originally called for just the school building and parking lots to be subdivided from the rest of the property.  [Read more…] about Grafton Planning Board Action
