Letter To The Editor – A Waste Of Taxpayers Dollars: Bus Routes

February 10, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the editor:
This letter is to inform the taxpayers of the BCD of the waste of the taxpayers dollars.
My children ride a small [school] bus – this bus goes on Stillman Village [Road] then proceeds to Varville, then (here is where the waste happens) drives a half of an hour to pick up two other students on the trail and off of the trail when another bus drives this same route. This same bus is also overcrowded with always a child sitting on the floor. A big NO NO! [Read more…] about Letter To The Editor – A Waste Of Taxpayers Dollars: Bus Routes

Letter To The Editor – Cruel And Contemptible Words

January 26, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the Editor,
I am appalled that New Lebanon Town Supervisor Michael Benson would listen to, agree and act upon the crude, cruel and contemptible words, “no show” of a scoundrel, charged against Anita Crosby – the now-dismissed bookkeeper for the Town of New Lebanon. Obviously, those looking to destroy her just saw that she wasn’t there when they were and jumped to their totally unwarranted, sneaky, cowardly conclusion. It was enough to fuel the fire already burning for her dismissal.

Letter To The Editor – Healing

January 20, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
As I have talked with folks about this Saturday’s American Legion Auxiliary’s fund-raiser I have heard some perplexing questions. I do not profess to having all the answers, but I do know why I am attending. I want to do what I can to honor our veterans. My first husband was a Vietnam combat veteran. He left home an innocent boy and came home a wounded man. For the rest of his life these wounds would scab over and then fester up again. [Read more…] about Letter To The Editor – Healing

Letter To The Editor – Focus On Christ During The Holiday Season

December 22, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
Two things drive me crazy during this season: the focus on the secular and (ashamedly) the never ending requests for donations. The latter changed Saturday when I visited my sister. She is schizophrenic and in a nursing home. She has been crazy for 51 of her 69 years, yet she is a better Christian than I could ever be. She had one of those little plastic wrapped Kleenex packages. This was a gift from the Salvation Army. She was so excited that they came to visit her and gave her a gift. Then she gave it to me and asked me to wrap to give to our mother, saying, “It is not much but it is all I have to give her.”

Letter To The Editor – The Armory’s Great Potential

December 22, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the editor,
Thank you to the over 40 people who attended the public hearing on Hoosick Falls Armory mostly speaking in favor of keeping the Town offices at the Armory and to the 350 people who signed the petition. So, we begin with a vision, a vision of success, a vision for the next chapter in Hoosick Falls history. And it all happens AT THE ARMORY

Letter To The Editor – Fix The Problems

December 9, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
First of all, I have to agree with Mr. Nash. We do have serious health, safety and ADA compliance issues in this district. That is where it ends. These problems are not from neglect. Many times referendums have been drawn up to correct the problems. They have always been voted down.

Letter To The Editor – Become Informed Before You Vote

December 9, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the editor:
On December 13th the Berlin Central School District is asking residents to vote on a $6.8 million dollar referendum. I am asking for the taxpayers to inform themselves before they vote.
On the surface it looks like a reasonable plan. However, if you dig deeper you will find there are many unanswered questions.

Letter To The Editor – Safety First At GLSP

December 9, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
With respect to the master plan for the Grafton Lakes State Park presented to the public last week, Fire Chief James Goyer makes an excellent and profound observation about the dangerous entrance to the Park.
Remediation of this problem should be the FIRST, most important priority. This situation is a life or death issue. The rest of the plan is like perusing the Christmas gift catalog and making a wish list. The ideas presented would all be very nice, but a safe entrance/exit is essential.
I suggest this go to the top of the list in an expedited manner.
Sincerely,
Anne Kiely
Carl Dippold’s Way, Grafton

Letter To The Editor – A Brief History Lesson

December 2, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
If you have been paying attention to the discussion around the Goodermote-Willis building referendum you know I do not support this plan. The primary reason being that I was not aware of a plan until it was presented at the September BOE meeting when I was informed that I would not be able to play a role in the planning process. Given the back room development of this plan by Ms. Goodermote and Mr. Willis without any other Board members input I feel this is their plan alone and does not represent what I feel is in our District’s best interest. Letter To The Editor – Be Vigilant And Vote

December 2, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
I would like everyone in the Berlin Central School District who cares about our children and/or our school tax bills to continue, or in some cases to begin, being vigilant regarding the plans and activities of our current School Board.
We MUST also, in whatever forms are available to us, communicate our opinions and desires for our District to said School Board!
A few years ago, the announcement of the intention to consolidate our 3 elementary schools into one building began a growing firestorm of controversy that has continued and evolved to this day. That evolution itself is an interesting topic to me but not the most important.
