Letter To The Editor – Hats Off!

June 15, 2012 By eastwickpress

To The Editor:
My hat goes off to the Board members of the Berlin Central School District for having the tenacity and courage to stand with their conviction on voting against the proposed Bond issue on the Berlin Elementary School. We, as the taxpayers, could not know all the particulars and may have never been properly informed about the long-term loss of renovating and updating the old building. Letter To The Editor – A Lot To Say About The School Board

June 15, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the Editor,
I just came home from the BCS board meeting. I have a lot to say about the whole bond issue.
For many years, there were referendums put to the voters for repairs needed in our schools. It was always voted down. Then John Nash and Beverly Stewart started telling about all the health and safety problems. That finally opened up the voters’ eyes. John and Bev started the ball rolling. I really appreciate that.

Letter To The Editor – What To Be Proud Of

June 1, 2012 By eastwickpress

To The Editor:
I was asked to offer the opening prayer at the Hoosick Falls Memorial Day Service on behalf of our Ecumenical Association as well as our Church to all our citizens gathered at the park. What an honor. As many of you already know, my dad and most of my aunts and uncles served in combat during World War II. Friends, relatives and neighbors have served before and after that war. Our family came here and have been proud Americans since 1892. After the opening prayer, I left the gazebo to stand with the people; I am glad I left. Letter To The Editor – Disabled Veteran Vs. Ignorant People

June 1, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the Editor,
I’m a member of my local fire dept. and an elected official. I served in OUR US Military and was injured in the Gulf War. I was challenged by another member of my disability by him asking questions, etc. It’s a shame that uneducated people have a certain picture in their heads of disabled people. How quickly people forget they have free speech because of my experience. Before you or someone you know judges someone else, give that person the benefit of the doubt; don’t jump to conclusions, and remember there is American with Disabilities Act and HIPPA in place for many reasons!

Letter To The Editor – A Conflict of Interest In New Lebanon

April 20, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the Editor;
I am writing to address the extreme Conflict of Interest surrounding  appointments made at the Town Board Meeting of the Town of New Lebanon on 3-14-2012.  The Ethics Board has had two vacancies for some years now and one member is absent for five months of every year, and should also step down. In January of 2012, there were only two present and available members of the Ethics Board, but there was also an applicant that was highly qualified and had served for the final six weeks of 2011 to complete a newly vacated seat. Letter To The Editor – Shocked By Bond Behavior

April 20, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
I am shocked that the Berlin Board of Education did not approve of the Bond.
These people were voted to represent the people of the District. In December, the people residing in the District voted and approved the Bond issue. The BOE should now represent the people and vote to approve the Bond. [Read more…] about Letter To The Editor – Shocked By Bond Behavior

Letter To The Editor – What Are Tax Caps For?

April 6, 2012 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor,
What are tax caps for? I was led to believe they were put in place to stop the runaway tax increases on taxpayers.
When small town boards and school districts can manipulate and override tax caps because “they don’t want to be constrained” on fiscal problems that might arise, that is completely why tax caps were put in place.

Letter To The Editor – You Are Not Speaking For Me

April 6, 2012 By eastwickpress

To The Editor:
In regards to the Hoosick Falls Armory issue that has become a point of contention in our community. The simple fact is that communities and cities everywhere are scaling back services as well as spending. Areas of Detroit, Michigan, have essentially been abandoned because the city can no longer afford to provide services such as water or care of roads because of a lack of revenue. Is Hoosick Falls any different? [Read more…] about Letter To The Editor – You Are Not Speaking For Me
