Ronald D. Kaczor — Obituary

March 21, 2025 By Eastwick Press

Berlin – Ronald D. “Ron” Kaczor, 82, of Berlin, NY, passed away peacefully at his beloved home on Dyken Pond on Monday, March 10, 2025, of natural causes.

Born on May 28, 1942, in Amsterdam, NY, Ron was the son of the late John M. Kaczor and Josephine Kaminski Kaczor. He grew up in Amsterdam and then in Mayfield, alongside his siblings, while cherishing childhood memories and lifelong friendships in the community he called home.

After graduating from Mayfield High School in 1960, Ron proudly entered the U.S. Navy the very next day, serving four years with the esteemed Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven. His time in the service, including during the tense days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, was a source of lifelong pride, particularly the memory of enduring several days in a foxhole during that historic standoff.

Following his Honorable Military Service, Ron went on to earn an associate’s degree from the New York State Ranger School in Wanakena, NY. He built a fulfilling career working with W. J. Cowee and Forest Mayer Timber, combining his deep knowledge of the outdoors with a strong work ethic and craftsmanship.

On February 29, 1984, Ron married the love of his life, Bonita “Bonnie” Maxon, in Hoosick Falls, NY. Together, they created a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. Whether traveling the country in their RV, boating on Dyken Pond, enjoying a Kahlua on the rocks at sunset, or simply tackling Bonnie’s “Honey Do” list; to which Ron would famously reply, “I’ll Get A Round 2 It.” They had a partnership full of joy and shared purpose.

A true outdoorsman, Ron found peace in carpentry, woodworking, fishing, clam digging, bird watching, hunting, and cooking. He had a deep appreciation for nature, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in raising his two sons and helping raise his two stepsons—a testament to his quiet strength and dedication as a father.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Bonita Maxon; his children: Jeff Kaczor (Rosemarie) of Sprakers, NY, Timothy Kaczor (Jayne) of Johnstown, NY, and Ira Greenberger of Maynardville, TN; and his cherished grandchildren: Lauryn Sikorski (John) of Williamsville, NY, DeAngela Greenberger of Walterboro, SC, Mariah Kaczor of Johnstown, NY, Schuyler Kaczor of Ketchikan, AK, Colby Kaczor of Homer, AK, and Kalman and Lily Greenberger of Minnetonka, MN. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Aurora and Everleigh Bourne, Dakotah Wilson, and Alexander Sikorski and his brother Fred Kaczor.

Ron was predeceased by his siblings, Bill Kaczor and Bernadine Demkowski, and his beloved stepson, Asa Martin Maxon Greenberger.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 12 PM at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, Route 43, Stephentown, NY, officiated by Trevor Jewett. All are invited to visit at the funeral home for an hour before the service, starting at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Berlin Community Cemetery, with a reception and gathering of family and friends immediately afterward at 17 Cherry Plain Square, Cherry Plain, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made in Ron’s honor to Friends of Dyken Pond, 475 Dyken Pond Road, Cropseyville, NY 12052, a place that reflects his deep love of nature and the land he called home.
