August 31, 1947 – December 7, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan C. Kennedy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life on December 7, 2024. Alan was a devoted husband to Patti Kennedy, cherishing a life filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Together they raised a wonderful family, including Heather Hart, preceded in death by her husband Steve; Dawn Kennedy and her husband Levin Schwartz; and James Kennedy and his wife Cassie. Holding a special place in his heart are his grandchildren Drew, Matthew, Kevin, Colleen, Chelah, Kai, Forrest, and Ivy. Alan is also survived by his beloved sister Carole Lengyel and her husband Ed; his niece Katy Terry and her husband Jason; and his nephew Craig Lengyel and his wife Megan.
His extended family, including his nieces and nephews, brought him great joy and were a vital part of his life. Alan’s passion for being of service to others was evident in the time he dedicated to his community and family. Alan served his country honorably in the United States Navy, where he received accommodations for his exceptional performance as a Director Reader Operator. His dedication to service extended into his civilian life as well, where he enjoyed a long and successful career in the software industry. In retirement, Alan served as the Assistant Chief of the Berlin Fire Department, where his leadership, bravery, and commitment were an inspiration to all who worked alongside him. Beyond organizational work at food pantries and homeless shelters, Alan’s spirt was called to be of service to whomever was in need in any moment. Alan had a passion and found inspiration in the planets and stars, nature, and the science of all things. He found ways to make possible the dreams of Patti and his children — be it by tending to a raku pottery firing or helping build his grandchildren’s tree houses. He sweetened their lives with homemade pumpkin pies and maple syrup and was always problem solving to make their lives beautiful. But, most importantly, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life and the love of those around him, spending quality time with his family and his beloved wife Patti. Alan is remembered for his kindness, hard work, and dedication to both his family and his community. His legacy lives on in the memories we are grateful to have, the love we share, and the values he instilled. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of the Snow: 31 Owen Rd, Grafton, NY 12082. Following the service please join the family for a celebration of his life at the Berlin Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Berlin Fire Department in his memory. Though we grieve the profound loss of Alan C. Kennedy, we take comfort in feeling his presence knowing that he will continue to be with us forever in our hearts.
