Petersburgh – Stephen Earl Bowman passed peacefully from this life, in the home he built, surrounded by the love of his family on September 13, 2024 at the age of 81.
Stephen was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on May 28, 1943, the son of the late Earl Bowman and Ruth (Scholz) Albrecht. He was an area resident for much of his life and had served in the U.S. Army from 1963 until 1967 in Germany. He was honorably discharged from service and with his wife, the love of his life, Kathleen M. (Schaefer) Bowman settled locally. He was employed by General Electric in Pittsfield for 26 years and later worked for Seagroatt Riccardi in Berlin from where he retired in 2008.
Stephen was very proud to have accomplished his dream of building a beautiful post and beam style home in Petersburgh where he would enjoy times spent with his family and friends throughout his retirement.
Stephen enjoyed buying and selling antiques. He was a proud family man and was blessed to have been able to watch his grandchildren grow into young adults, each of them filling his heart with pride. He devoted much time to being present at their various sporting events and activities and always supported them in everything they dedicated themselves to.
He was an active member of the Taconic Valley Post #937 of the American Legion where he served two terms as Post Commander, was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Berlin, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, David and Mary Ann. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen M. Bowman to whom he was married on July 2, 1966; his children, Scott (Wayne) Bowmanchester, Stacey (Richard) Sicko, and Sherry (Gene) Kluck; his grandchildren, John Geary (Nikki) Hendricks, II, Sgt. Joshua Stephen Kluck, USMC, and Matthew Ryan Kluck (Ashlee); his brother and sister, Raymond and Barbara; and his lifelong friends and traveling companions, Barbara and Ralph Bortell. Stephen also leaves his devoted and loyal canine companion, Riley (Jake).
In accordance with Stephen’s wishes, private services will be held for his family and he will be interred in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of customary remembrances, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to the Taconic Valley Post #937 American Legion, 15B Railroad Avenue, Berlin, NY 12022 in honor of Stephen E. Bowman.
The family wishes to take the opportunity to thank Community Hospice of the Capital District and Pauline Morstad for her provision of care to Stephen during his last courageous battle with cancer.
